So, over the past few years I've noticed a notable scarcity of Drupal developers. Demand for talented individuals is high, supply is low. I remember going to a PDX DUG a few years back and there were two job openings spoken for every person attending... and everyone attending was employed!
The pro's of this seem to be quite notable for us as developers, no one made anything close to this when I first got into this all back in D5! However Is this scarcity creating a turnoff for companies/organizations considering Drupal?
It has been my experience now across the past four years the difficulty finding Drupal users has lead organizations to overlook Drupal, or regret choosing Drupal when they can't find local talent, or to flat out leave Drupal because they simply can't get support.
Are we as a community not doing enough to foster newcomers and keep that demand expanding? Is D8 a risk with a notably higher barrier to entry?
I'd be curious what everyone else is observing. My experiences lead me to believe that we're making short term gains for long term losses, but I'm not so foolhardy as to believe my experiences are the only ones at hand.
