Speaking

Excited and nervous!

Spent the whole day working on my slide-show for Wednesday about a single-page front-end build stack with Gulp.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again and this stuff I'm speaking about feels like the days of Drupal 6 when contrib modules exploded so much that you couldn't really have tried them all any more. I'm sure that during my talk I'll be making notes too as people interrupt to mention some cool additional module they use!

Thanks Guys!

I really enjoyed last night. It was the first long-form speakership opportunity I had at the Johannesburg meetup, all the others having been short slides. Can't believe it ended up taking around an hour and really liked the questions.

Your interest in the topic leads me to believe we'll show some serious progress on our front-end development skills this year. The coming Drupal 8 will certainly support that too.

Meet-up topics are becoming more advanced all the time and DASA is also doing very well. More on that will follow this coming week, especially in support of Adam's unconferencing topic about supporting and participating in DASA activities. Don't worry, it will be hard to miss ;-)

With more professionalism, we probably have a couple of growing pains to address. I'm sure you guys that attended know what I'm referring to and I hope that it will be addressed in a clear and final way so that the meet-ups will continue to grow without problems. It would also be great if we can organise a podium, like for the Cape Town meet-ups. It definitely helps a speaker project so that everyone follows easier.

Let me know if you need any additional notes or reference, but the slides will serve as some reference too:

As always, you're welcome to fork, change and talk, the repo is on:

Here's the slides for the Burtronix training that we hope to offer for free to the Drupal community, but please remember, it is still dependent on us finding a suitable venue:

And the public repo in case the syllabus sounds good and someone else, say in Cape Town, want to fork it and put a similar course together:

The current Reveal.js Yeoman generator is a bit of a pain to use, still relying on Ruby Sass and with it Ruby and some of it's dependencies that aren't easily met with the new Sass gem versions that are out. So if you get stuck with forks or your own Reveal.js, we'll probably be making a Gulp-based generator and releasing it Open Source some time in the next few months.

Thank you again everyone for your patience, consideration and great support!
