Hi folks,
There are a few members of the the group who have expressed interest in collaborating on a Drupal module that implements the DataONE Member Node API for our Drupal sites. I wanted to make you aware of a discussion to collaborate on this module, and if you are interested, please feel free to provide your availability at this Doodle poll: http://doodle.com/qgzbnd7s2ttt8dcm
If you are not familiar with DataONE (https://www.dataone.org/), they are a foundation, funded by U.S. National Science Foundation, seeking to "ensure the preservation, access, use and reuse of multi-scale, multi-discipline, and multi-national science data". Their goal is to achieve this through "sustainable cyberinfrastructure that meets the needs of science and society for open, persistent, robust, and secure access to well-described and easily discovered Earth observational data."
My organization, Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO), is becoming a member node of DataONE, and I need for our data management Drupal site to implement the DataONE APIs (http://releases.dataone.org/online/api-documentation-v1.2.0/). After speaking with a few other folks from the Geosciences community with the same need, Drupal + DataONE, it made sense to open this up to a larger Drupal community of users working in the sciences.
Feel free to pass the Doodle poll on to other you may know, and we will post here the final date, details of the telecon, and meeting highlights after its completion.

Hi folks,
I wanted to provide an update on the DataONE Drupal module after our kickoff telecon. We've decided to use Google Docs to collaborate on our understanding of the DataONE Tier 1 Member Node requirements. We also decided to collaborate on the Drupal module code at Github. Below are the links to these respective locations. To join in on the work, please send an email to: adam@whoi.edu and I will add you to the GitHub team and Google Drive. Thank you!

Hi folks,
I just had a really encouraging discussion with Matt Jones of DataONE about the Member Node API. He cleared up some misconceptions about how to search and discover data, the intent of the Member Node API (at tier 1 it's purely one direction Member Node to a Coordinating Node, and not an API for discovery), how to make queries for discovery, and the flexibility of the persistent IDs required by version 1 of the API. I'll add specifics about our conversation to our Google discovery documentation, but I wanted to share with the larger group since the specifics address some concerns about the usefulness of becoming a DataONE Member Node.
