Hello everyone,
I want to thank all of you for providing me with your local insight, recommendations, and research for our site visit in January. I also want to thank each community for your hospitality. Rachel and I felt the trip was perfectly set up for a successful site visit plus we were both touched by all the community time we had with you - a trip of a lifetime. Here is a blog post from my trip. https://assoc.drupal.org/blog/megansanicki/india-%E2%80%93-embracing-con...
We visited Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai and visited many venues in each city. Rachel and I short-listed some venues and we are now getting real costs to build a budget. This will help us see which venue can support our plans and fit in a realistic budget. From this budget, we will also see what we need to raise in terms of sponsor dollars and how much the Drupal Association will invest in this event, too. (We’re all in this one together ☺ )
Our timing is:
March 18: Present our findings and recommendation to the Drupal Association board in the March 18 Board Meeting (Executive Session – private session). This allows us to discuss freely and answer board members’ questions.
May: We will make our decision in time for DrupalCon Los Angeles because we want to announce the location from the main stage at that event. Typically, we don’t tell many people in the community before we announce in order to create a fun surprise for everyone. However, I am not sure how to handle this for DrupalCon India. I think it is great to give the Indian community a nice surprise, but I also want community leaders to be in the know and help plan the reveal at DrupalCon Los Angeles (think video). After the March board meeting, does it make sense for me to call a meeting with those that helped with the site visit feasibility research? I will share the location and next steps. Those who were point in each city are:
• Bangalore: Chakrapani, Hussain
• Delhi: Mayank, Rahul
• Mumbai: Ani, Rachit
Please let me know if that makes sense or if you feel you or someone else should be in this meeting. It will take a village to build this DrupalCon, so I don’t want to mis-step along the way by accident.
Thanks again for all your help getting to this part of the planning – so close!

Thanks for sharing the milestones Megan.
I think it will be tricky keeping it a surprise. It will be fun if we could :) ...
When you were in Mumbai, you must have gotten the sense of how important getting into the Higher Ed and Gov space is in India, esp with the big open source push by the Gov of India - FOSSEE. I would advise keeping Sunthar also in the loop once the plans develop further from DA in March. He is already planning a visit to DrupalConNA LA :) and is super excited about Drupal.
As you already know we have launched DCAP, CXO Roundtable and various govt-industry partnership initiatives, coming out of DCM2015. By March mid we should have several of these already set on their milestones and moving fast. Of course will keep you updated :).
Exciting stuff, Ahoy! :)
