Revival of Las Vegas Drupal Group

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hello All!

I'd like to revive this group and propose changing the group's organizers to myself and somebody else (tag-team!). We used to have meetups more than a year ago, organized by oadaeh, but it seems he's no longer in Vegas.

I've been working w/ Drupal professionally for the last 4+ years and on side gigs since Drupal 5. I propose that we revive this group and have drupal meetups in Vegas again so that we can talk about beginner, intermediate, and advanced topics in Drupal, and also talk about Drupal 8 and its upcoming release.

Please feel free to comment and or reply.

I would be interested in this, as there is still so much about Drupal to learn...

I'll make sure to keep the ball moving on this. FYI, most likely it'll be at the Innevation Center if I get approval for it.

Cool @dremy. What's your company? It's unfortunate but TicketCake had to close shop. I'm w/ Galavantier and we run Drupal on Pantheon.

Nice. I had a friend who lived here a few years back who did Teach For America before she went off to Med School.

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to let you now that we will still be reviving the Vegas Drupal Group. Sorry for no recent updates - I just got back from a long vacation. I'll coordinate here, and on our meetup page - http://www.meetup.com/vegasdrupal/

Let's get this ball rolling again

I sent a message to mikeejt a month or so ago,but didn't hear back. I am willing to help organize, and I can provide space at UNLV, to help get this thing started.

Go for it

Hola Russ.

If you want to get the ball rolling, then start pushing. Waiting for someone else to decide to get moving and then to actually start moving is frustrating. I know. I was in your position 5 years ago.

So then here's what you need to do:

  1. Make sure you have a day and time set aside for the space for the meeting. If you're planning on continuing to host on a long term basis, try to pick something where you can say the first, second, last, etc. Monday, Friday, etc. of the month, and try to have at least 2-3 hours of time available.
  2. Make an announcement in all the places where people are waiting and watching, like this group and the Meetup group (you can do something like recommend or suggest a meeting on Meetup, even if you can't create an actual event).
  3. In your announcement, or as a comment, solicit involvement, like presentations, refreshments, etc. If someone says they'll help, acknowledge that right away and pin them down to a specific thing.
  4. Spread the word around UNLV. There are lots of people and departments that use Drupal there. I can name maybe two or three people (who you probably already know) that might still be there and might be able to participate and/or help out at least a little bit.
  5. Create an agenda for the meeting, even if it's a basic one, so that there's a plan of action for what will be done/accomplished.

Some caveats:

  • Don't be surprised if there's only one or two people there. Even if there is, conduct the meeting in the same way as you would if there were 10 or 100 people there.
  • It doesn't matter what day or times you choose, there will always be someone who can't make it.
  • There will also be people who say they would be there, if only the meeting were on some other day or at some other time (or in some other location). They still won't be there, even if you change something to suit them.

I am still traveling through Mexico and Central America, but my current plan should have me back in Las Vegas by June, so I can help and participate at that time.
