Hello! I've been teaching

Hello!

I've been teaching myself Drupal for the last few months. I've learned some things, but still have lots to learn. I'd be happy to help if I can.

The best help site I've found so far is http://codekarate.com/. There are other forums such as this one, but my experience using them is that the responders assume that you have more knowledge than you do. Codekarate's videos are easy to hear. Sometimes other videos have poor sound quality.

You may want to start with Acquia Dev Desktop https://www.acquia.com/products-services/dev-desktop. It is free and enables you to run your site on your computer. I don't know if it runs on the Mac, but it works fine on my Win 7 computer.

You may want to check at TAMU to see if they have a free site you can use to host your production site.

Drupal has hundreds of files to keep track of. It also has a database. As far as I know all your customization resides in the database. This makes it difficult to migrate from dev to production without destroying content on your production site. Drupal version 8 is supposed to fix this problem, but it's not yet ready.

There is probably a Drupal "distribution" that would get you up & running quickly.

You don't have to worry too much about knowing php or HTML most of this is behind the scenes.

Please post here again if you have additional questions.

I'm in the Houston Drupal

I'm in the Houston Drupal group because Houston is the closest to me. I actually live in West Columbia which is about an hour south of Houston. If you think you could drive down here I'd be happy to share what I know with you.

I don't know why you are able to install some modules but not others. Are you getting error messages? If so, please paste them here. Are you running Drupal locally on your computer using Acquia Dev Desktop?

Please keep in mind that some modules require that certain other modules be installed. You should get a message when this happens.
