Meetup

For my better understanding, can you please tell me why meetup is supposed to be more convenient?

I too would like to know why the move to meetup.com for signups. Is there something wrong with the signups on groups.drupal.org? Not sure why I now need 2 accounts to RSVP and get the announcements for this group.

Hi there, thanks for your

Hi there,

thanks for your feedback cgalli and frederickjh!

I feel like meetup has established itself as a good platform for well hosting meetups. Benefits I see are better usability and easier attraction of people who aren't only interested in Drupal but who already attend other meetups.

Based on your interests the platform can recommend interesting meetup groups, for example:

http://www.meetup.com/Zurich-PHP/
http://www.meetup.com/Tech-Tuesday-Zurich/
http://www.meetup.com/Docker-Switzerland/

I also understand that people might fear this fractionating an already existing Drupal user group that we have here on groups.drupal.org/switzerland so I'd be happy to get your feedback on where you'd like those meetups to be organized. Either way, I think creating the meetups on g.d.o is essential so that everyone knows about them and we also get listed on http://www.drupical.com/

I don't want to impose the decision of if we should use meetup or d.o for RSVP - I decided to try it this one and wanted to collect some feedback and discuss during the next meetup.

Cheers,
dasjo

Full event schedule on g.d.o

Most importantly, i fully agree that we should leverage the power of local event communities and making open source travellers more aware of what whe d.o community does.

I think g.d.o should be well descriptive at least.

Each event posted should have the full session schedule without requiring our g.d.o community members to click a meetup link... The g.d.o email notifications thus also provide community members real value right from their inbox.

Personally, i'm unhappy that i need to signup on a different platform and that g.d.o looses value. We always knew it is not perfect, but we well know the value of complete aggregation, including ability to click into participants lists of past events. We could also just say "Visitors are encouraged to primarily signup on g.d.o" and still allow meetup signups to lower the meetup.com barriers? An organiser could also add a comment on meetup a few days before the event to make meetup people aware of the g.d.o signup count?

I'm looking forward to the discussion!

I have re-enabled sign-up

I have re-enabled sign-up here on the groups page and added the talk descriptions above.

I agree that e-mails should be well descriptive, we just have to figure out if we need to update summaries often this might get cumbersome as it has to be done twice...
