I have been using Drupal for about 10 years, since version 4.5 (I think).
For the past 5 years I have been a Drupal Gun-for-Hire consultant for Enterprise organizations, mostly in NYC.
I submit patches and contribute documentation on d.o.
Soon I plan to start the process of contributing my first module for sharing block-level DOM elements via CORS.
How I mentor
- I help junior co-workers with Drush, Git, DevOps, best practices etc.
- I help colleagues with specific issues (just ask me)
- I help to connect people in my network with specific skills, particularly non-Drupal ones (SEO, analytics, etc.)
- I am not often on IRC, but when I am I try to answer questions (usually nobody answers - or can answer - my questions :(
- I advise people considering a career in web development. I share my experiences over 15+ years. Recently I helped a friend post his first application, a Java Web Start version of Conway's Game of Life, on one of my domains.
- I belong to a few communities for budding developers, for example Skillcrush Bootcamp on Mighty Bell - I provide guidance when someone asks for help.
- I have signed up to mentor at DrupalCon LA
Operating systems
I have a MacBook Pro with OSX Yosemite, Windows 8 and Ubuntu Linux as separate boots, using Bootcamp and rEFInd.
I moved the Linux partition to the MacBook with Clonezilla.
I work mostly in Linux.
I have used Acquia Dev Desktop in Windows XP.
ATM I don't have time to get more involved in formal mentoring through this group, but I will lurk and stay informed.
