Drupal Accepting GSoC 2017 Students - Call for Mentors!

Drupal is officially accepted into Google Summer of Code 2017 and is currently accepting student proposals. Students are encouraged to request proposal reviews on IRC in #drupal-google at Freenode.

Calling all mentors! Even if you don't have an idea or elite coder skills, you can still help. Drupal prefers to accept a small amount of projects with as many mentors per project as possible. If you're interested participating, contact me via d.o or find us on IRC. We're more than happy to team you up with potential students who will continue pushing Drupal 8 to the next level.

some Drupal advice please

I'm wondering if anyone has time to mentor or offer some Drupal advice. I'm in the process of teaching myself Drupal while attempting to build a site and I could use some direction. I thank you in advance for your time, Wendy

Freaky mentoring story

So my friend sends me posts on Craigslist about Drupal.
One of them asked for some simple basic help, and I offered to meet him in exchange for a beer (which became a Vitamin Water at my discretion).
It turned out that he is someone my family knew almost 20 years ago, a newspaper publisher for whom my wife wrote book reviews!
The simple solution to his problem posting JS tags for ads was to turn off the WYSIWYG editor - his offshore developers never explained that step to him :P
(an important lesson for Mentors: do not assume your student knows things)

Assistance for core mentoring booth at DrupalCon LA 2015

Hello Drupal LA community,

The core mentoring team is setting up a booth for DrupalCon LA 2015 to invite attendees to contribute to drupal by participating in the Mentored Core Sprints and the First-Time Sprinter Workshop.

For the booth, we need a flat screen monitor that can handle a usb stick with slides on it. This will be used to present the sprints' schedule, and BoFs information. We have limited budget so we kindly ask the local community for help on meeting this requirement. Can some lend us a monitor for use during the event?

Thanks for any support you can provide us!

Introduction: Randall Goya

I have been using Drupal for about 10 years, since version 4.5 (I think).
For the past 5 years I have been a Drupal Gun-for-Hire consultant for Enterprise organizations, mostly in NYC.
I submit patches and contribute documentation on d.o.
Soon I plan to start the process of contributing my first module for sharing block-level DOM elements via CORS.

How I mentor

  • I help junior co-workers with Drush, Git, DevOps, best practices etc.
  • I help colleagues with specific issues (just ask me)

It was fun GCI, Welcome back GSoC

Our awesome community recently became a bit more awesome. Drupal was accepted into Google's Summer of Code 2014! Student applications started March 10th and are open until March 21st. It's not too late to become a student, mentor, or submit a project idea. Not available to join the GSoC fun...maybe you can send an email to your alumni university mailing list?
