German on one day, English on the other?
I'm thinking that we should put all German events on one day and all English events on the next. That way, if anyone can't speak one of those languages they can chose to go home on the other day. Thoughts?
I'm against splitting it up.
I'm against splitting it up. I can't think of a sane argument atm, but I don't feel it's right.
mmm
well then let it be English the first day ;)
... so we can have our hangovers in peace
No seriously I think it would be best to NOT split the languages blocks on each day. One of the strengths bout drupal is the communications between developers & users, and us inbetween, so to "send" all the non-german speaking home after a day would be kinda sad woudnt it? ....

Usual way / practical solution
Splitting sessions is a usual way in conferences, I agree with that.
Germans have shorter travalling, and I think it's easier for germans to understand english than the other way round.
So my argument would be to have it easier for non german speakers to arrive and depart. That could be one language a day, it could also be a german begin first day, english middle, german ending last day.
I'm not travelling so far, so I don't mind if you mix it up. ;)
mix it
I have attended many conferences in Germany and I have realized - Germans are used to talk German.
Even if this sounds a bit strange to others ... its true.
If there are two Germans, they start talking in German :-).
I have no solution for the language problem but I am wondering whether it it possible to do a few "Drupal beginner sessions"
Like
- "Drupal from scratch" - "Eine Drupal Website in 45 Minuten"
- "Drupal inside - what is in a real existing Drupal website" - "Drupal von innen - Wie sieht eine real existierende Drupal Website von innen aus"
- "Theming - but how?" - "Theming - aber wie"
- "Accessibility" - "Barrierefreiheit"
- "How to use drupal.org" - "Wie funktioniert drupal.org"
in German language depending on the audience.
I don't think, that there are so many guests from abroad interested in these kinds of "beginner sessions" but I am sure that there is interest from German visitors.
I think it is better to mix the sessions, so that there is a way to come in contact.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think if we want to have a "German community" <- whatever that means to you - it is necessary to speak a few words in their language.
It is the same with French, Italian, Spanish and other communities.
Sometimes it is hard for a "Newbie" to go to a "spaceship" like drupal, where all the cool people are.
Just a few thoughts in my "Spaghetti-Conference-English" from the old fashioned
Hagen
PS: When I finished this comment I saw that were already a few sessions in German language ... so I say - mix it!
From the talks proposed so
From the talks proposed so far it looks like the German ones are more interesting for beginners and the English ones more for experienced Drupal user/developers. I am not in favour of a language split but in case it will be done that way the German talks should be on the first day and the English talks on the second, to reflect the level of experience expected from audience.
I think mixing languages may make it easier to get in contact with developers/users from other countries and I agree with mortenDK that it would be sad if all non-German speaking community members would leave after one day or only come for the second.

I somehow missed the
I somehow missed the discussion going on for this thread when I made the schedule, but I decided to split it up into German on the first day and English on the second. There is still a lot of motivation for people who speak no German to come on the first day as we have the Drupal developer room, and the rest of the conference also seems very interesting. Also, as someone observed, many of the German talks seem to fit together as a "What is Drupal and what are we doing with it" sort of way. Well... we'll try it out this way. If people don't like it we'll do it differently in the future.
