Just wondering whether there are still any regular (or irregular!) Cardiff meetups anymore, or whether people are just going to the Bristol one instead?

I'm in South West Wales and would be interested in a Cardiff or preferably Swansea or Carmarthen meet.

Swansea

We've talked about Swansea meetups before, so I'd definitely be willing to explore that further if there's interest.

I have been sooooo slack on

Mike Dodd's picture

I have been sooooo slack on this, but have been crazy busy with Drupalcamp Bristol!

I was talking with Oli about this last night and possible venues (I have one i the bay but its a bit difficult for most people to get to).....

Better to be a geek than an idiot.
My software never has bugs. It just develops random features . . .

You guys are doing a great

nicrodgers's picture

You guys are doing a great job with DCB... no doubt it's a busy time for everyone at the mo.

I'm working in Cardiff for the next few months, so it'd be convenient for me to attend CDF meetups if there were any... Otherwise I'll still go to the Bristol ones - but probably just not as often...

Anyway, see you at DCB if not sooner!

I've been meaning to post

opdavies's picture

I've been meaning to post something about Cardiff/South Wales meetup for a few weeks, but hadn't gotten around to it yet aside from catching with with Mike briefly over the last couple of days.

I'd like to see more regular meetups again, even if we only have a few people regularly turning up, hopefully it will grow. The problem with every 3 months like we discussed before is that people lose track.

The other thing is that now FoundersHub is closed, we'd need to find somewhere else to have it. Any suggestions, anyone?

Nic, I'm in Cardiff some times for the Linux user group and Unified Diff, so we'll probably bump into each other at some point, and of course at DrupalCamp Bristol!

Cardiff Meet

I new in town, and would welcome meeting others at a Cardiff meet-up.

Let me know where the 'Llandoger' is but guess it sells alcohol

The Llandoger is in Bristol,

The Llandoger is in Bristol, the venue for the Cardiff meetup will need to be decided.

cardiff meet

Hey all,

I'd be interested in a Wales meetup, location doesn't matter for me as I'm in mid-wales and everything will require a 1-2 hours drive. I'll have a look to see if I can find the bristol one, depending on my schedule might be able to get to Bristol as well.

July

opdavies's picture

Shall we go ahead and organise something for July (although I'm away for some of it). I wouldn't have an issue if there's only a couple of people.

The main thing is finding a new venue. Suggestions, anyone?

I'd be up for a Cardiff meet

nicrodgers's picture

I'd be up for a Cardiff meet in July after DrupalCamp Bristol...

Just bumped in to @paulconolly who'd also be up for it, Monday to Thursday evenings... Any particular days/dates that work best for you Oli?

@nic Monday and Thursday are

opdavies's picture

@nic Monday and Thursday are usually DA Engineering meetings, so I'd like to avoid those if possible.

I usually attend Drupal Bristol (3rd Wednesday of the month) and Accessible Bristol (last Tuesday of the month), and occasionally PHPSW, but I'd prioritise a Drupal meetup over that (unless I'm speaking).

From a Cardiff perspective, we'd also want to avoid clashing with Unified Diff and probably Cardiff DevOps.

...all sounds very sensible

I suppose we could just pick a date for a one-off meeting in July and then get a properly scheduled regular repeating event in the diary that works well with all the other meetups?

Hi, Were have 6 Drupal

alexfarr's picture

Hi, Were have 6 Drupal developers here in Swansea, i would hope to get a good percentage of the lazy bar stewards to come to a Swansea meet, but i doubt i would get them to Cardiff in a weekday evening.

If Swansea is a go, we maybe able to host as i know someone here has offered in the past or there is the tech bub in town. Both are walking distance from the train station for people traveling in.

Never been to Swansea (!)...

Never been to Swansea (!)... I'd be up for going once or twice maybe, but too far away for me to make any regular commitment.

Maybe we could alternate as i'm sure getting people to travel from Cardiff to Swansea and vice versa will be tricky. I do it every bloody day to get to work so i will try and convince them its not that bad.

opdavies's picture

Alternates is a pretty good idea. Shall we do Cardiff in July and Swansea in August?

I'd probably make Swansea most months if we do alternates. Travelling isn't as much of an issue for me as I work remotely, so can just pick the laptop up and take it anywhere. :)

I commuted from Swansea and Cardiff for about 9 months between moving there and getting a job locally - it's not that bad. :)

Talk?

opdavies's picture

@alex: Would you be interested in doing the talk at a Swansea one? I'd like to see one or two talks per session, maybe, and for a change, by someone who isn't me or Jamie for a while. :)

While i'm not against doing a talk I'm a little short for topics, i do love the sound of my own voice however..

Rob Holmes from the office i know is keen to do a talk as he's been working on a Angular JS and Drupal module thingy.

I work out of TechHub on Wind Street in Swansea. I'd be interested in hosting a Drupal meet up here if you're all interested. It might be a bit early for an proposed agenda but my background is in Digital Marketing and out of the box Drupal is "OK". We've spent a long time perfecting it for Search so I'd be happy to share that. I also have a VM setup based originally on https://www.drupal.org/project/drupalpro which may help some solo coders be more efficient in their workflow with Drush. Could probably get beer and pizza thrown in too if that sways it.

@TechHubSwansea - Sounds good
