Is there a local chapter in Hyderabad? We would like to move our website web.sherpaz.com to a drupal instance.
We have found that doing the basic Drupal 6.x or 5.x installation is a childs play. Most modules are reasonably well plug and play. So functionality on Drupal can be had in 30 minutes or less.
Making a theme that looks the way we need it to look requires special expertise. When Drupal gets this thing cracked, it will be powerful tsunami.
Are there any enthusiasts who, preferably in Hyderabad, can help us experiment with Drupal custom themes? We often think about it and then run out of steam when we can not find making progress.
Keep at it, and Drupal will be a great career opportunity for every one staking their efforts on it.
Hi, We are a Chennai based Software company. We are in very urgent need of a very good Drupal developer. The initial stage of project needs the person with very good knowledge on various modules of Drupal and how best to use them. During the later stage of our project, there will be good amount of customization work on the Drupal front. If anyone interested kindly contact me.
we're a 1 yr old s/w firm based in mumbai focusing totally on drupal customization.
since our inception we've done 3 drupal based projects. these projects are of medium sizes
(40+ custom tables, 5+ custom modules and tons of themeing customizations)
so coming back to your question.. drupal is not being used for only fun/hobby driven
sites but some serious real world applications.
Good to hear that...
Infact my comments earlier were little premature I must admit.
As SundarRajan also posted some job things.
Grat to see that things are catching up.
Would like to knwo what kind of custom modules you are talking about Yasheshb
and by theming you meant only CSS or DHMLT/Javascript stuff too??
I encountered a good site buil on Drupal, from India, its by Tekrirti Software
URL: http://www.goingon.com
Particulary liked the control panel... I feel I am good at backend stuff and can handle/update/create DB
stuff pretty fast, lacking in UI capabilities..
SO, yashes and others here, what do you feel, how much effort has gone into UI of the particular site??
big giants like IBM, TCS etc etc are also working on few drupal based projects!!!1
many challenging proj ideas(not normal websites but web applns) are getting implemented .... especially high traffic web appln concepts with optimised search queries n all ...
drupal is getting its hands up at india now!

Drupal is just for time pas..there is no any growth on drupal....
It's just for time pass game.....n coding style is so rough.....so beware of drupal..
I dont think drupal is a time paas ...But drupal provide higher quality in less time...!! And makes fun to have ur own sites...Even a non coder can get his site beautifully managed..!!n And if you are a php coder and have idea about drupal modules then it will be gr8..I think there is much scope of drupal and it has its standard conventions and style of coding that make it fully extendable and module based..
Its seperate thing if u got hanged in drupal coding :)

I didn't think there is no work. I am working for USA based organization and had seen that West is going fast towards open source. They didn't want to develop a new software for there need but wanted to change a readymade solution according to there needs. Open source had attracted them a lot.
Because it is free therefore lot of people are working on it and have websites, therefore quality is missing. If professional work on it, the quality will surely be very good. The core provided by Drupal has lot of scope for development. A professional touch is required.
Could someone give links and resource to master Drupal more than developing theme and module configuration? I need some resource to help in developing new modules and editing core.
many times when we use the default modules we come across many unexpected issues which may need to be solved by hacking the core. So a person - who is understands the drupal architecture & flow will be able to hack the modules.
mainly he/she should know the exact flow.
people who are good at PHP & who understands the drupal flow will be easily able to build new modules.
Quality - it varies from project to project as well from person to person whos handling it.
As u mentioned earlier drupal still need 2 have a professional touch to it.

Yikes!
Are you sure you want to do that? In most cases, you can write helper module and extend the framework rather than hacking core. Only under very rare cases you have to do that and when you do that MAKE SURE YOU DOCUMENT IT.
I am agree with Roshan Shah, bpocanada.
Drupal resources are in Gujarat, India and quite a few companies are doing some big projects in Drupal like VirtuInfo, Gloscon etc. Drupal has great future.

OpenKick is an OpenSource Training company in Gujarat - a spin off from Gloscon.
Company focuses on Drupal and Ruby On Rails Training + training people on entrepreneurship.
Why would anyone want to work for TCS/Wipro in India today? You'll get drowned in the CMM methodologies and corporate politics. Better to work in lean and agile startups where you learn more and quickly gain business knowledge.
I strongly recommend young graduates to subscribe to Dare Magazine http://www.dare.co.in as well as join local barcamps or start one if not there.
If anyone wants to establish business in Gujarat, I'd be willing to help including providing funding if you have viable idea.
I have been following your activities related to Drupal Training that you do through openkick. Its great one - and i am planning something similar in Nagpur. Nagpur badly needs a movement like yours.
Its about more then 2 years ago i heared about drupal and started to work on drupal. At that time i found no company here workiing on drupal and all were using either joomla or Smarty but now i can see most of companies have shifted and started to work in drupal.also new upcoming companies also starting with drupal.I worked on most joomla,wp cms and can say drupal is the BEST..!! and i enjoy to work in drupal based projects.Just work of few days or houre and u will get a nice site. Also creating new theme based on html design is just work of few hours or can take 1-2 days only..!

kool yashesh,
I was looking for very informal comments on goingon type of sites...
its not like exact estimates or something... but i kind of find it out on drupal forums ...
and feel this is the most what one can do with Drupal, not sure if everybody agrees here...
I particularly like the Media gallery section ...
It contains tab for Audio, Video and Images...
which I think bpoCanada was referring to as outer pages and inner pages...
@bpocanda, correct me if i am wrong and
and inside the gallery what i liked more was ther is some kind of button which says Ass phootos and then
it generates one more set of upload box, tag box and one can add more pictures....
now this i think as such is not possibel with "Image" module or CCK ImageField ....
but I feel some kind of customization on ImageField...
Has anybody any idea over this thing here, or somebody has done something similar?
another good site built on drupal
