User group organiser meeting?

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Following on from a BoF that we had at DrupalCamp London earlier this year about how user groups and DrupalCamps could collaborate more and learn from each other, and a few subsequent things, I had an idea of having a user group for user group organisers so that we can discuss what different groups and organisers are doing, what works well, how to promote events etc.

As an organiser for the South Wales and Bristol groups, I'd personally be interested to know what others are doing and what's working for them.

I was thinking maybe doing this quarterly using Google Hangouts or similar, if it would be of interest to anyone else?

Good idea Oliver :)

We do however (I believe) still have the Google group that Tatiana setup for us after London but I never got it off the ground. I'm not sure how to collate the e-mail addresses but is that the right tool? Hangout is also great idea but again we basically need a central database of e-mails so we can get started. Do you want to DM me the best e-mail to add for you to the Google group and then we can together add those we know, and any others post here to join?

Steven did a list of contacts a good while ago but I would guess its at least still relevant, even if a bit out of date.

Ah, yes. I remember.

Yes, I think that would be the best tool for collecting email addresses.

Done, thanks.

Yes, I have a few people in mind who we should invite. I'll send some emails and DMs tomorrow.

I'm in, when should we do the first one

I'm well up for this, especially now that I run a 2nd user group meeting since December just like Oliver in Surrey. http://www.meetup.com/Drupal-Surrey

I've been running http://www.meetup.com/Drupal-West-London/ for 1.5 years and have managed to get 120 members, but usually no more than 5-6 attendees per meetup so it would be really useful to learn from others to see what has worked for them in growing their local communities.

Do any particular days and times work out best (perhaps Friday afternoons)?
