We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

This does not seem to be a forum created to advertise businesses and services-- especially not by using the "create job" link 2 minutes after creating an account. (There are other lists and groups for that). Can we clean up some of the SPAM?

Sure - if you report problems (with links to the offending content) then the moderators here can remove them. In the future we're working on a system of voting so that bad content is highlighted to the site admins more simply and immediately.
