User group meeting

Hello there,

With Drupal 8 hot off the press there we're all very keen to dive into, learn and share about the new system.
We aim to reinstate regular meetups and have talks/presentations from fellow Drupalists. This is a great opportunity for anyone in the South West, new and familiar to Drupal, to join in and share the fun!

Indigo Herbs in Glastonbury is kindly hosting this evening.

The address for the meet up is:

Indigo Herbs
Unit 8
Adlams Central Park
Wirrall Park Road
GLASTONBURY
BA6 9XE

It is right behind B&Q next to Burns the Bread. Take the turn into B&Q and keep right, the road will take you past B&Q and left. Indigo Herbs is in Unit 8 on the left hand side.

See it here: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.1417761,-2.7306948,19z

Please sign up here or ping us a message via the @drupalsomerset Twitter account.

See you there!

Theming Ramble

chris_hall_hu_cheng's picture

As suggested at the D8 launch party, I am still happy to do a D8 theming ramble/nature-trek here. Also kick of discussion around Drupal theming and to some extent Site Building off the back of it, and make a couple of comparisons with other frameworks and approaches.

For example Drupal has always been "An abstraction from the frontend" discuss ..........
"Drupal is a terrible place to START learning about web technologies" discuss .........

I don't have time to prepare slides etc. but have a bunch of examples to walk-through plus opinions (will remember to bring an open mind though ;)).

Future meet up topics

Stefan van Hooft's picture

Hi,

Following Chris' presentation/walk-through suggestions it might be an idea to think about future talks too.

A few topic suggestions:
- Drupal 8 (obviously) :-)
- Static php site generator Sculpin and its relation to Drupal
- mapping in Drupal with Leaflet/OpenLayers from a site builder's perspective
- project tools for distributed teams
- a new Drupal Somerset website...in Drupal 8 of course
