Start:
2010-03-27 09:00 - 2010-03-28 17:00 America/Boise Event type:
Drupalcamp or Regional Summit
We have the opportunity to work with the Boise Code Camp and Tech Fest to present a Drupal track as part of this great weekend. It's an opportunity to both expose more folks around the area to Drupal and have our first of what will hopefully be annual events for Drupal in the Treasure Valley.
We'll be planning our session proposals and BDUG coordination at the March meeting.

I'm sending 2 of my developers to the conference (John & Kirk). Hopefully we will be able to present on "CCK & Views" and "OA & Features". I will be in Mexico vacationing so I won't make it but they should be able to cover these good topics.
Have they submitted their sessions?
We need to do this right away as BCC is only 16 days away. Current sessions submitted can be found at http://www.boisecodecamp.org/Sessions/tabid/80/Default.aspx
The Sessions can be submitted at http://www.boisecodecamp.org/Speakers/SubmitASession/tabid/78/Default.aspx

Hi Clint, thanks for the
Hi Clint, thanks for the updates. We're just wrapping up getting folks committed to the different sessions and getting session descriptions today. It sounded like Josh Brauer signed us up for a full track, so I wasn't sure if we needed to submit all the sessions at once under one name, or if the individual presenters should submit on their own. The deadline for sessions is tomorrow evening, is that right?
Thanks!

Each presenter needs to submit his own session.
Each presenter needs to submit his own session at http://www.boisecodecamp.org/Speakers/SubmitASession and at the same time, submit his bio for inclusion. We only had one session from Josh and if we are to build a track we need to get those submissions in right away. Also, as I wrote Chris, I would be willing to put in a session for installing and configuring Drupal 6 on Fedora 12, a 101 basics level presentation "how-to." That would give us 4 presentations that could be the basis for a track at CodeCamp.
Thanks,
Clint Tinsley

Updating
I see that Kirk and John have posted their sessions and they are already posted on the session page.
Thanks,
Clint
Registered for presentation, now what?
Clint,
I registered to present a session and I got an automated reply, but for the looks of the reply it sounded more like confirming my attendance to the session and not to be a presenter. Do you know if there is a different confirmation?
Thanks,
Antonio
Just submitted my session
Hi,
I just submitted my Internationalization session to Boise Code Camp. Now I need to polish and rehears it a few times.

Session Submission
The automated reply was for the registration not for the session. I have written the committee to confirm that we should now have 5 sessions submitted in fulfilling our commitment to put together a Drupal track. Thanks to you all for getting your sessions submitted.
I will follow up tomorrow and make sure that we are good to go.

Hi Clint, it looks like we have a couple folks that haven't submitted yet. Here's the list: http://groups.drupal.org/node/53678. I gave people the impression we had until tomorrow night to submit, sorry about that. Will it be too late if they get in their talks by tomorrow?
Thanks!

If I am not mistaken the deadline stated on the website is 3/12/2010 until midnight.

Boise CodeCamp Drupal Track
The deadline is today which should make it midnight. At this moment, only 3 sessions are being displayed in the Drupal Track - Josh, John, and Kirk. Antonio and I both submitted a Drupal Session last night but those have not appeared. Chris wrote that he thought we needed nine but I am sure that is correct unless we were going to extend our track into Sunday. I will make a couple of phone calls later this morning and check. The sessions are 75 minutes in length with 15 minutes inbetween each session providing for 3 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. We had a planning meeting yesterday and at that point we only had one session posted but we really didn't go into detail other than we still needed presenters and have had a cancellation or two. After I make those calls, I will add to this thread as to going forward and verifing that both Antonio's and my Drupal sessions are to be added to the session list.
Thanks to all.

session submitted
I submitted my session late last night.
Boise Codecamp Drupal Track
We should have our track filled now at 5 or 6 and will have a dedicated room on Saturday to Drupal.
I have conflicting information as to the 5 or 6 required for Drupal Track but at 5 I think we are good to go for Track and I think we may have 6.
As to session confirmations, I have never seen an "official" confirmation of the session submission, you know you are good when it is published on the session list. The person handling the website published early last night so that is why we are not on the list and I am told that he will probably publish again either tonight or tomorrow.
You should get an email for bio submission and if you want your picture added, that is done via gravatar using the email address you used for the session submission.

Drupa Track Sessions
I have confirmed that we have 7 sessions submitted with one more submitted this morning. We can have 6 in the same room on the same day, sequentially, as a Drupal Track.
Need a decision, we can move one of the sessions to Sunday or we can have in a seperate room in Saturday which means it may conflict.
Thoughts? We will have some input as to the final order of the presentations in the track before the actual schedule is finalized.
Thanks,
Clint Tinsley
Hi Clint, It seems like
Hi Clint,
It seems like moving it to Sunday would be good, rather than having two going at once. We have a couple presenters that are only available on Saturday, but some of us will be there both days.
Thanks!

7 Sessions are now up on Boise Code Camp
Here are the seven sessions. I reviewing this, we can only have 6 sessions in the track on Sunday and Saturday will be full, so we need to decide which of these will be offered on Sunday. Concensus, comment?

If you're building a web site from scratch, God help you. In this day and age you have a multitude of options at your fingertips for web site frameworks, and standing out among these is a powerful beacon of goodness called Drupal, a technology that powers numerous high profile sites like the White House, NASA, BMG and The Grammy Awards. In this session I give you a somewhat biased - but still fair - overview of what often makes Drupal the best solution for web-based applications and sites. If you build web sites or are considering doing so, then Drupal will make your life richer and your employment options numerous.

WIth the release of Drupal 7 comes a host of new features and functionality for end-users, site-builders, developers and themers. We'll start with a brief overview of what Drupal is and delve into the changes with an eye towards what makes themers' and developers' processes simpler and more powerful.

Drupal 6 is the latest version of a very popular dynamic content management system (CMS) which can use MySql as the database backend. In this session, we will go through the basics of installing Drupal 6 on a LAMP (Linux Apache MySql PHP) using Fedora 12. The session will include creating the database and drupal user on MySql as well as setting the file permissions necessary for a succesfull installation of Drupal 6. After installing, we will go through the basic configuration steps for implementing a functional Drupal 6 including theme selections, modules, and user administration.

In a generic web application we always need the following: * Database tables for our data * CRUD interfaces to the database tables * Queries to limit and retrieve our data from the database tables * Presentation and interface to our queries on the database tables Any coder who has built these know how tedious and cumbersome this process can be. We also recognize how repetitive this process is. How can we simplify this PAINFUL process? Let Drupal and its awesome modules lift the weight and relieve your pain. Does your organization need collaborative spaces for internal groups? If you had a central blog, calendar, task tracker, notebook, and shout box would your group be more effective? There is a push toward online collaboration for many companies. We are realizing the limitation of email as communication tool. It is too hard to separate out the wheat from the chaff. Welcome Open Atrium (OA) - OA is Drupal based installation that is preconfigured for groups based collaboration. We will demonstrate a Out the Box install of Open Atrium and show you the usefulness of its features. Well Open Atrium is nice, but how can I get my company specific Content Type as a Feature in OA? Well its easier than you think. If you have a basic understanding of Drupal, Content Types, CCK, and Views you can make your feature avaliable to OA and your collaboration audience. We will demonstrate how to create (A-Z) a feature for OA. We will show how this will facilitate good Development, Stage, and Production environments. With all this collaboration and cost savings can't you see the pure JOY in your bosses eyes?

The core Drupal installation, while providing a powerful framework for site building and custom code development, really starts to shine when you introduce some very important add on modules from the Drupal contributions repository. As a newcomer, finding those modules from among the 5000+ modules in the repository can be a challenge. This session seeks to jumpstart the attendee's awareness of the essential modules for most installations.

Drupal has built-in support for creating websites that can be localized for different languages. This built-in support comes on the form of the Locale module which allows text strings from Drupal to be translated. This presentation will show you how to configure a multi-language single-site Drupal 6 site as well as how to allow for content translations. Some of the items covered during this presentation are: * The role of the Locale Module * The i18N and L10N modules * Overview of the roles of these two modules * Approaches to building localized websites: * Building different websites for each language * One site that supports many languages * Supporting modules required

7 Sessions are now up on Boise Code Camp - More
Looks like I lost my numbering for the sessions, they were numbered 1 through 7 but oh, well.
One other note, we also need concensus on order of presenations for the track on Saturday.
The current older might be best but that depends on which session gets moved to Sunday.
Thanks,
Clint Tinsley

Thanks, Clint, this looks
Thanks, Clint, this looks great!
The only suggestion I'd make is to bump "Essential Modules for Most Drupal Installations" up above "Drupal - Open Atrium Introduction & Building a simple OA Feature". Also, jrglasgow's presentation on setting learning basic web dev tools like FTP would fit good before all of these sessions, even thought it's not specifically Drupal.

Session Scheduling
I will recommend to the planning committee that Essential Modules be bumped up before Drupal - Open Atrium in the track on Saturday.
Does James have a preference as to Saturday or Sunday. We already have a full track for Drupal on Saturday and if his session was on Saturday, that would put people in the position of having to make a choice between his session and one of the Drupal Sessions in the track. I can see advantages to having his session on Saturday but we do have people attending on Sunday that don't attend on Saturday.
We still ned to determine which of the 7 Drupal Sessions that we can move to Sunday.
Clint
I would be inclined to have
I would be inclined to have James' session on Saturday if we have two sessions we can move to Sunday to give the folks who make it on Sunday a little more flavor. I'd be happy to put the Drupal 7 session on Sunday as part of that if we have another to move as well.

To be clear...
So the Drupal theming session I submitted didn't make the cut?
Nevermind...
I actually see it on the list as well so we need to include it in planning out Drupal track. I am only available Saturday though.
Sunday Sessions!
Including James Glasgow Build your first website, we now have 9 sessions in the Drupal Track. We need to move 3 of those to Sunday now. Josh has volunteered to move his session. We need two more sessions to move to Sunday. We can only have 6 sessions in the Drupal Track on Saturday but we could continue the track on Sunday.
Thanks,
Clint Tinsley
I believe James is only going
I believe James is only going to be available on Saturday, and I like the idea of overflowing onto Sunday, rather than having concurrent sessions.
It seems like the following sessions should definitely be front-loaded in the track:
* 10 Reasons Why Drupal (might) Kick Your CMS's A**
* Drupal - 101 - Installing & Configure Drupal 6
* Essential Modules for Most Drupal Installations
After that, I'd say it could go in any order.

Prefer Saturday slot.
I would prefer to present on the Saturday session, but I could be flexible if needed.
