A Journey Into Drupal

Everyone starts somewhere.

For our April meeting, Jon Hines of Dash Digital Group will outline his transition from a small proprietary CMS to Drupal. We will look at several sites that Dash Digital Group has built or upgraded since their switch to Drupal with a focus on lessons learned along the way. All the sites discussed will be Drupal 7, responsive and designed with social marketing in mind.

The sites are:

http://www.ecraftsmen.com

http://www.metabolicsyndromecanada.ca

http://www.ontarioultimate.ca

http://wods.ca

(and one more site that is not yet live)

The above sites all rely on dynamic content (they are not brochure sites) and have been themed with a variety of approaches (purchased theme, bootstrap subtheme, custom base theme).

Some notable features to be discussed include integration with external management systems, Google content experiments and intelligent cropping and scaling of images.

The process for creating/upgrading each site varied with project budget but also evolved as the development team grew in skill and knowledge.

The presentation will be interactive with plenty of opportunities for discussion.

Meetings for the Waterloo Region Drupal Users Group happen on the third Thursday of each month (except for July, August and December). The meetings are held at The Working Centre, at 58 Queen Street South in Kitchener, between 19:00 and 21:00.

If you have a Drupal related topic, or showcasing a web site or a module that you built with Drupal, please contact us, and we will arrange for a talk.
