Hello Everyone,
With a bit of a dip in association-like activity on our local front it is perhaps a great time to highlight the fee and open elections for the director-at-large position on the board of the international Drupal Association. Elections are about to start and in fact, some of the process started a little while ago already with a call for those interested to serve to submit their profiles.

Yup, very exciting (and quite scary at times) ;-) I'm standing as a candidate too and my primary goal with this year's candidacy is to generate participation in and awareness of the process. On Wednesday the DA will start promoting the election and the candidates, but we can post about it in the mean time.

As you can see, you're all welcome to post comments to the profiles. Actual voting will be between the 6th and 18th of March and works pretty similarly to how we used to do it for the local DASA in that you rank candidates and to vote, you have to have been a member of Drupal.org for at least a year. It is remarkable and encouraging to see just how much of the Drupal Association work-flows are similar to the ones we used for DASA and it is a heck of an interesting learning process getting to know more. We did very well in years past here and while I have to admit that the chance of winning this election is on the low side for me, the process is very enjoyable and with such incredible candidates we all win by having one of them win. On the off chance though, I'll still have enough time to make sure I can contribute to our local community in meaningful ways as I did before.
Let's bring South Africa and Africa to the stage!

I made it to round 8, which is great and even started with 65 votes, which was more than I expected. Privately I decided I'd be thrilled with more than 50 and as judged by last year's votes and as turned out for this year, one needs around 350 to 400 to win.
So thank you very, very much to all of you who ensured that I could make a nice representation for Africa. Put us in the spotlight and show such incredibly great comments from our community on the profile page. We'll definitely be doing this again.
Unfortunately Drupal is also facing a heck of a trying time right now. I've had so many posts written up about it and just decided not to post anything in public yet because I am an eternal optimist and keep believing that good people will make things right. Let's give it another few days and see, keeping my fingers crossed. If you don't know yet, then read the highest commented Drupal Reddit posts, ask your friends why the Druplicon striked in IRC, why people speak of hard forking Drupal and check out Twitter.
