I just used tokens for the first time in a D7 module, and found that (AFAICT) there are some features missing that will be essential.
(Also filed this issue because there's completely inadequate documentation of the new API as well... nothing in the update guide, nothing in the handbook.)
In D7 we're missing:
- An API for modules to use to tell users what tokens *might* be available.
- A UI for users to use to discover the universe of tokens.
- Tokens from some likely core places, especially Profile module.
I'm thinking a "Token Extras" module might fit the bill, providing those former functions that are lost in core. And with a name like that it could fill in some other holes as they're discovered.
Greggles suggests that the D7 version of the Token module is the place for this type of functionality, and that that has been the intent of the D7 version.

These features should remain with token module
Greggles points out that token module can live on in contrib and provide these features. So the name is wrong. But what else should go into a D7 token module?
How about support for profile field tokens?

Researched to discover I needed to install a module called tokens !!!!
Just learning post below:
Very new to Drupal and starting with 7.
Tried to auto install Path Auto and got an installation failure.
The checkbox on the modules page will no check and it says token(missing).
No clue what a token is nor how I find one so it won't be missing.
