Event type:
User group meeting

After an informative and wide-ranging discussion at the March meetup, let's get together for a more in-depth look at one aspect of Drupal -- hosting.

Depending on the complexity of your site and what version and components you will enable, the requirements for Drupal's hosting stack can be quite hefty. There are a lot of cheap and easy hosting providers that offer Drupal hosting with 1-click installs, but some are not sufficient for more than the simplest of sites.

That should not deter you, and a good understanding of the fundamentals of the hosting stack can help you avoid (or get you out of) trouble, even if you've got a full-service hosting provider doing the heavy lifting for you.

We will look at

  • Components of the hosting stack and understanding how they fit together
  • Optional components to make it all work better
  • Security
  • Tools and utilities
  • How to set this up on your own
  • Providers that offer basic and optimized environments so you don't have to do this on your own

We will cover the basics and some more advanced topics. Novices and pros alike are welcome and an understanding of these concepts is helpful for even the roles that don't directly deal the back end of Drupal.

  • Opening remarks, news, jobs, security releases, etc. Anything of general interest to our community.
  • Presentation - Tony Manhollan will present on the topic of hosting. Tony is a developer, site builder, and administrator at RealestatePointe, a tech company specializing in Websites and services for the Real Estate industry.
  • Q&A on the presentation topic. Attendees are welcome to offer any experiences of their own on the topic as well.
  • Short period of open discussion for any other topics
  • Future meetups
  • Adjourn for social hour at a nearby restaurant or bar

Thanks to Cleveland State University and Anthony Roundtree for arranging the meeting space again this month. We will meet in the conference room on the 11th floor of Rhodes Tower at CSU. Rhodes Tower is located between Euclid and Chester at East 21st/22nd streets. It is the tall building that's clearly visible when approaching the campus from any direction. There is public parking available in lot 22 (between 21st and 22nd streets) and at the Central Garage (entrance from E 21st), both adjacent to Rhodes Tower. There may also be spots available on the street on Chester. Parking fees at the University lots are reasonable and there are credit card payment options.

CSU Parking information is available here: and a detailed campus map is available here:
