Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Anyone interested in having a BoF about event organizing?

Saw that last year at DrupalCon there was what looks to have been a great BoF on event organizing for Drupal.

BoF: Field Guide to Drupal Events

chachasikes's picture

I would like to have a BoF where we talk about the different types of events that happen that support Drupal (as well as Open Source). Ideally to make a guide for people who are new to Drupal, or for local event organizers who want to get ideas for events that might work well in their own communities.

I proposed this session at Drupalcon: http://sf2010.drupal.org/conference/sessions/we-are-drupal-your-neighbor... (please vote if you are interested)

One goal of this session is to introduce people who are new to Drupal to the variety of Drupal events and workshops. This includes camps, user groups, Drupal happy hours, coffee meetups, workshops, local sprints and more.

The other goal of the session is to introduce additional models of events to the Drupal community, either through invited panel presenters, or by interviewing them and sharing information about those projects with Drupal at large.

For example, one cool event is the Ruby on Rails Outreach Workshop, a workshop where the goal is to "reach out to women who are new to Ruby and Rails." And Jennifer Pahlka from Code for America has graciously accepted an invitation to speak about Code for America. They have a fellowship program in the works which will connect web savvy talent with city governments. Another example is the mentoring component of Google Summer of Code. How could we create local mentoring opportunities for developers (in and out of school) to be better participants in open source?

There is so much awesomeness that has started up this year. It would be great to do this session, have a BoF and then report what we learn back to the Drupal community. Anyone want to help or come to a BoF about this?

I'm organizing workshops within my company and I'm one of the users group organizers for my region. I'd love to attend something like this.
