We list on our Drupalchix page description that we have make up of 10% women, compared to Propietary/commercial software is 25% and Opensource at 1.5% from the audio file at DrupalCamp LA. Also good notes from OSCon presentation on Kirrily Robert's blog.
In DrupalCampLA they listed the make up "somewhere around 14-20%", yet only a small percentage of those women actively participate in the meet-ups, camps, code-sprints and other Drupal activities.

How are we generating these statistics? Is this attendance at Drupal events? DrupalCamp? Committers? Organisers?
I've been involved in organising two DrupalCamps in Ireland and I've never been asked to hand over any gender info. It wouldn't be too hard to gather this information from organizers.
How did we come up with the 10% and how did DrupalCampLA come up with 14-23%?

wish i knew too
i also wish i knew
and in my heart of hearts i would like to see some numbers that show that drupal's healthier percentages has influenced & increased the number of women developers. i know it is not supposed to matter, but i am a developer and it is just something i think about. often.
DrupalSouth 2010
We had 17% female attendees at DrupalSouth this year - only the second year running the New Zealand event.
webchick may be a good person to ask too.
Technically it would be possible to look at user profiles on d.o/g.d.o and count the number that are 'female' but not all users get further than entering a name and password.
Female count at LA Drupal meeting
I would say there were about 10-15% women at the LA Drupal meetup last night. I didn't get an exact count. There were around 70 or 80 people total. I was tickled pink when my # was the first one called for the raffle--out of all the people there, a girl got first dibs. :)
Hey Heather, was good to meet
Hey Heather, was good to meet you last night! There was definitely a good turn out at the LA Drupal meetup, and they in general have a high percentage of women in the group. I bet Rain would have some better figures.
