In past meetings, we briefly touched upon expensive commercial Enterprise Content Management (ECM) used by some organizations.
Here is an example of a huge project by a large management consulting company (Accenture, previously known as Anderson Consulting), for Hertz, the car rental company. Cost was $32 million, and followups were $10 million.
The twist here is that the project is a failure, and now there is a law suite for tens of millions.
It could very well be that this is a classic Death March IT project, failed due to mismanagement, rather than open source vs. commercial. But it also enforces the point that using commercial products is no guarantee either.
