In response to feedback from many people, including attendees at Drupal GovCon and Decoupled days, the Debug Academy team has spent many months creating new intermediate developer courses! We're excited to offer the short (1-2 day) classes in Tysons Corner, VA, this August.

Rather than making a post per class, we're making a single post to share various 1-2 day classes which are coming up in the next month.

Upcoming class information:

Each of these classes will be held in-person in our Tysons Corner classroom. See below for more information about the upcoming classes.

You can register for (and read about) the upcoming classes here: https://debugacademy.com/classes-enrollment

More information about the classes:

  • React for Drupal (1 day)
    • When: Thursday, August 15th
    • What: We'll modify an existing Drupal 8 website to prepare it for integration with a decoupled application. We'll then build and launch a React app from start to finish. We will create and integrate new React apps with Drupal, with and without decoupling our website.
    • Who is this for: You should be a programmer who is comfortable writing at least one of PHP or JS.
    • This popular course sold out at the most recent DrupalCon!
    • Cost: (Discounted price) $375
  • Advanced React (1 day):
    • When: Saturday, August 22nd
    • What: What are the more advanced development techniques being used today for React? We'll discuss routing, Redux, Behavioral Programming, Explicit states, Higher order components, render props, context, Portals, and more!
    • Who is this for: You should be a programmer who is comfortable writing JS and creating at least basic React applications.
    • This popular course sold out at the most recent DrupalCon!
    • Cost: (Discounted price) $375
  • PHP Essentials for Drupalers (1 day):
    • When: Friday, August 9th
    • What: Ready to evolve beyond building websites with HTML & CSS? It's important to understand the fundamentals of PHP. In this 1-day class, we drill down concepts that you will encounter when writing PHP code on any project: functions, arrays, loops, passing by value & reference, Drupal hooks, and more. And we use hands-on exercises to allow these concepts to finally sink in.
    • Who is this for: You can work with HTML and CSS, even Twig. You may have dabbled in PHP or JS but never got comfortable with them. You'd like to take the next step so that you can perform basic custom module development tasks, such as implementing Drupal hooks.
    • Cost: (Discounted price) $350
  • Object Oriented PHP & Advanced Custom Module Development (2 days):
    • When: Both of Saturday August 17th and Saturday August 24th
    • What: Get your hands dirty building a non-trivial, interesting Drupal 8 contrib module. Dependency injection, Services, Interfaces, Extending classes, and much more. Let's build an advanced custom module in Drupal 8 while learning about Object Oriented Programming and Symfony.
    • Who is this for: You know the basics of PHP - loops, functions, maybe even how to create custom modules in Drupal 7 using hooks; but you're tired of sitting on the sidelines when people discuss how great OOP and custom module development in Drupal 8 is.
    • Cost: (Discounted price) $650 for 2 days
  • Front-End/Twig Deep Dive (1 day): Thursday, September 12
    • When: Thursday, September 12th
    • What: Learn the ins and outs of front end development in Drupal 8. It's time to learn the less obvious aspects of D8's front end system: render arrays, caching, preprocess hooks, Twig, debugging twig (what variables are even available?!), and more!
    • Who is this for: You may have written SASS in a Drupal theme before, but you don't really understand the ins and outs of Drupal's theming system. You'd like to know what's going on behind the scenes.
    • Cost: (Discounted price) $350
  • Drupal 8 Web development (3 month, part-time): Thursday, September 22 - December 20
    • When: Thursday, September 12th
    • What: Git, Composer, CLI, HTML, SASS, Twig, Drupal 8, PHP, hooks, basic OOP, and more. These skills easily transfer to other web-technologies, and will put you in a great position to be employed as a web developer. We do real, hands-on development as a team using Git flow, contribute a brand new theme to Drupal.org, and the amount you learn is only limited by the amount of time you put in.
    • Who is this for: This course is accessible to a wide range of skillsets. Beginner web developers and Senior programmers from other technologies share a classroom. Want to become a Drupal web developer? Build a real project with our dev team.
    • Cost: (Discounted price) $3,600

Attendee feedback

  • “The structure and order of the course made a lot of sense, it was very logical, and paced in an appropriate way. As soon as I got curious about another topic, it came up later in a lesson or in the next lecture. I think the way learning in this course is laid out is really well done, and now I'm going to have a hard time following the structure of other courses if it doesn't feel just as logical. Well done. Thank you.”
  • "[The debug academy teacher] is fantastic. He's soooooo good at...... explaining things!! haha. " - Overheard by alumni in a GovCon slack channel
  • "I took a class with Debug Academy and it rocked my socks off!"
  • "So many things you touched on in class are soooo clutch right now. I am very grateful."

Quick FYI for anyone planning to take the advanced OOP PHP & module development class: It's 2 Saturdays in a row (starting tomorrow, 9:30am-4pm). A few people have asked if they can attend one day, but it's designed so that both days should be attended.

We'll be building a non-trivial module which will be contributed to drupal.org and which will improve drupal.tv significantly. https://debugacademy.com/classes-enrollment to sign up.

I won't be making any additional posts in this thread for the other listed classes, but if you have any questions, please email ashraf.abed@debugacademy.com
