Transition Silicon Valley

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Just came back to groups.drupal.org and see I'd joined this subgroup a long time ago.

I'm part of the initiating team for Transition Silicon Valley and am using Drupal for the site. This weekend I'm looking into Organic Groups to provide a working area for the teams that will launch.

All - we met today in San Francisco to review some ideas for creating features that will help communities with Transition. San Francisco would like to be a beta site for this.

I'd like to help with the requirements, planning, IA, and staffing.

Hey guys,

I just discovered this group and nearly fell over myself.

I'm on the web/comms team for a Transition town based in London, UK and have been working with a small team on much the same thing as you're already doing. We also were aiming to try to help as many other communities as possible, especially those without web developers of their own.

How far have you got? Is there any other activity apart from the discussions in this group?

I'll add more detail on what we're doing soon.

We're just starting

Hi,

We are just getting started. The group officially started yesterday at the community meeting in San Francisco. However, we've been looking at different software for about a month. We finally all agreed to go with Drupal.

The project is just getting staffed. I believe Andre is organizing a developer call this evening - 7 pm PT.

We need a designer and a branding person ASAP. Do you know anyone with those skills who is willing to contribute their time?

Hi, djwesto.

As Ania mentions we're having a development meeting tonight at 7pm PST via Skype. The goal is to come up with an initial feature list for a release in about 4 months, roughly coincident with D7's release. You're very welcome to join or we can post the first draft of the document and discuss it/have another call in the future.

Please ping me at aangel ( a t ) post peak living ( d o t ) com and we can trade contact info.

Hey, glad to hear from you.

I do have some concrete progress on transitionsiliconvalley.org .. we have a thought to use Organic Groups on our site to enable discussion among committee members. I implemented it but haven't been able to get anybody to actually use the implementation, hence I don't have user feedback if it works for them. It seems usable to me but of course you can't tell anything until real users get their hands on it.

My thought is to convert the implementation into a 'Feature' (features module) to facilitate sharing. We're undecided yet how best to package and whether modules are best packaged as Features or what.

The goal is (as I understand) to create prepackaged stuff - e.g. a Distribution - that would enable a Transition group to quickly set up a site with facilities required by Transition groups.
