Resources on using Drupal for nonprofit/membership sites

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I'm looking for resources to help with Drupal applications for membership/nonprofits' websites. Specific needs are for dues payments, accepting donations of any amount, course and event registrations.
I'm pretty good with front-end development and administration - can follow and create documentation that's pretty user-friendly, not too technical. But I need help with the back-end part, or to be pointed to good documentation about how to set it up.
You can see our site at www.e-kehila.com. We have used Ubercart in the past but it is not activated right now.
If any local folks (D.C. area) have experience that you would be willing to share, please contact me.
Thanks -
Hazel

Creating Membership Based Non-profit sites

The Maryland Drupalers are getting a learning project going for creating a site, as a teaching project that has these types of features. You might want to come to the next meeting this Wednesday to get involved. The current plan is to make a new site for the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.

Have you looked into CiviCRM

It has a reputation of having a significant learning curve, but I think they've made some improvements recently. It can handle all the features you mentioned and it's full blown CRM/Membership Management software.

CiviCRM

Hi Adam, thanks for the suggestion. Not sure I"m up to it, though...

CIVICRM

I agree with Adam. CiviCRM is worth the time you spend learning it. It really isn't that difficult. Take a shot and install it on your site. You have nothing lose, except a little time. I am not all that technical and I have CiviCRM running nicely on two sites. I just handled registrations for a 100 person dinner with 4 meal choices and had no issues.

Good luck, Jeff

Contractor recommendations?

Does anyone know how I can find a reliable local contractor to help me puzzle through this? I'm not sure whether we'll go with CiviCRM or just Ubercart - could use some help figuring out what's the best way to go and how to implement it.
