Hello to all of those that have found this Drupal group. I created this group because all the organized Drupal meet-ups seem to be just a bit out of my reach. I am sure, or shall I say hoping, that there are others that are in Central Eastern Pennsylvania that feel the same. I live in Danville, Pa and think that between Danville, Bloomsburg, Williamsport, State College, Wilkes Barre, Scranton, Harrisburg and all areas in between we have the making for a really active Drupal Group. If you are in theses areas, please subscribe to this group and lets start planning our first Drupal meet up.

Post Drupalcon 2008
I am fairly new to Drupal and the community, and Drupalcon 2008 Boston was my first Drupalcon. I would just like to say that my experiences there with the rest of the community attendees were phenominal. For awhile now, I have been trying to figure out how I can really get knowledgable with Drupal. What I discovered at the conference is that the absolute best way to learn about Drupal and harness all of its tremendously powerful attributes is to simply get involved with the community. Anything from answering questions that people post, submitting patches to contrib modules, or helping document modules are great ways to contribute to the community.
That is why I feel that this group is a great opportunity. Its a way localize some of that two way contribution and allow for a more focussed interaction between fellow Drupalers.
On another note, don't let the name or the picture fool you. I have been deeply motivated to rise to this call for involvement by what I saw at Drupalcon and I am ready & determined to jump right in. The picture is of my cat (her name is Mac). I used her pic instead of mine because she is just way more photogenic than I am.
In Allentown
I'm in Allentown, so perhaps on the fringe of where this group desires to gather. I'm glad to see this group get started. Like tooFATforBUTTer, I'm also making a special move to get involved in the community. I've been using drupal for a few years now, but am just starting to understand the development potential it has. Previously I've been enjoying it as a plug and play solution, but it has so much more to offer. The Lullabot podcasts and the Geeks and God Drupal series have really opened my eyes to tools like CCK and Views. I have some plans for a site that I hope to be building and designing in the next for release in the next year.
Welcome to the group
Welcome to the group flickerfly! I am glad that we (and when I say we I mean Pennsylvania) are getting some attention. kpoust, tooFATforBUTTer and I have the liberty of being able to work together and we like to talk about Drupal when we can. We have been working with Drupal for about a year with our biggest project being our corporate website, http://www.c-sgroup.com. (http://drupal.org/node/222377) I am hoping that we are able to get enough people together to be able to accomplish some great things as a group or maybe put together a group met-up.
I will have to listed to the Geeks and God Drupal series as I have not listened to any of those. Of course, I have listened to pretty much all of the Lullabot podcasts, they are fantastic.
As for CCK and Views, they are a must! Also, Panels, imagecache, contemplate, flashvideo, thickbox, nodewords, jstools and update status are a few pretty good one too!
I've spent a bit of time
I've spent a bit of time checking out panels and contemplate this evening already. The rest I'll have to check out. Both look very useful in the project I'm planning now. I'm trying to stick to Drupal 6 in my devel knowledge because I don't have many excuses for D5 and I'd rather not confuse myself with issues of compatibility.
I actually have not migrated
I actually have not migrated over to Drupal 6 yet because the contributed modules that I need are just not ready yet. I am thinking that I will upgrade my blog site this weekend. I am using the gallery module and I see that there is a dev version of this module. Looks like I will have to upgrade to the head version of gallery2 to use the module. That should be interesting too!
On the contemplate side of things I don't use that as much anymore. I like to create template pages directly and use the Komodo IDE in order to view the variables and then theme then in the template pages. You can take a look at http://www.shawnpreisz.com/using-komodo-debugging for a tutorial video I did. It's not the best thing in the world but it's informative.
Neat, thanks for sharing
