I have a use case where I want to create a an arbitrary grouping of nodes and have a contest by having people vote on them. Is there a module that handles something like this? I've looked at nodevote, but that doesn't seem to do what I need. I suppose the other option is to do something like have a Contest node with a nodereference field and then somehow have people be able to select which one. The desired functionality is to display the options in a panel pane and have the users be able to select one from there.
Any suggestions appreciated.

I'm trying to work out a similar system I think. My site has Component nodes and Option nodes. Option nodes have a node reference field to a parent component. One component will have say three associated option nodes. I want my users to be able to vote on one option for each component. If they change their mind the initial vote is removed from the first option and moved to the new option.
None of the voting modules I've looked at seem to handle this functionality. Just wondering which direction you ended up heading or if anyone else has any suggestions.

These comments were from May so there's a chance that someone found a solution that worked and just didn't post it here.
I'm thinking that actions could be used to count the number of times that someone has voted.
I don't know if this would work but it seems to be one possible approach to get folks to vote on nodes.
Either that or create a poll module that pulls the values from a taxonomy & uses the titles of the nodes as the options for the checkbox.
In anycase, I'm interested in hearing what your approach was.
