codug.com development wiki page

Note: This is a wiki page, be bold and suggest ideas and make changes! These goals, tactics, features, etc... are not set in stone, but are a collection of ideas and discussion by the group. In the end the site will be limited only by how much we use it. Currently CODUG has the following web sites:

  • meetup

    • strengths: marketing, organizing meetups
    • established user base of non-drupal people to target
    • weaknesses: fostering discussion
    • seems cluttered less meeting centric since the layout change
  • groups.drupal.org (current codug.com)

    • strengths: discussion, wiki, job listings, link hub
    • weaknesses: only Drupal people know about groups.drupal.org. It does everything, but not well.
      *needs better wiki syntax support

Goals

  • Promote Growth of CODUG as a whole
  • Education: "Provide a hub to share knowledge"

    • Paul: A hub, a link to everything: People, Ideas/Knowledge, Drupal
  • Community Involvement

  • In the end codug.com should be a vehicle to "promote real world interaction".

Audience Discussion

  • PMs looking for possibilities/opportunities
  • Clients looking for help, checking things out
  • Developers: growing the local community by helping to provide knowledge and improve skillsets
    • Students
    • People who want to be developers
  • Newbies who want to know what Drupal is all about

Tactics

1 Growth
  • Meeting Management A centralized tool or set of tools to help us manage what happens before, during, and after meetings.
    • pre-meeting: topic, bar
      • Tools to push announcements from web site:
        • Social networks, professional organizations, educational organizations.
    • meeting: "instant feedback"
    • post-meeting: questions, follow-up, files/notes
  • Consolidate Contacts Provide a way to make it easy to find people locally, contact, and meet each other.
  • Metrics Establish and use metrics to help plot growth/retention
  • Live Streaming
2 Education
  • Usable and organized educational materials (do not mirror drupal.org)

    • Meeting screencasts, notes, a/v stream, other files (?)
  • Instant Feedback (or) Ask An Expert?

    • This stems from Brian saying he always gets people asking him questions personally, and we should distribute the load.
    • Promote questions/content that are valuable to the community
    • Feedback or questions are related to meeting topics
    • Requires a core group of experts available. This is a very intensive tactic.
    • Instant feedback relates to a way of asking and answering a questions during the meeting itself.
3 Community Involvement
  • Connect users to topics and thus to other users
    • "like" (flag/vote) topics?
    • A good method of finding and viewing users (i.e. not g.d.o, d.o., or meetup.com)
