Michael has put up some great initial designs for a new logo for our group and we're long overdue for an update to my five-minute-GIMP-disaster. What does everyone think? Any other suggestions?

My personal favorite is the lower-left, encompassing the whole state.

Ditto
I like the lower left as well. I'm an avid Husker fan, but I don't know that our drupalicon is :)
Some Additional Variants
Based on the general preference for the state option, here are some more variations.
What is the official name? Drupal Nebraska, Nebraska Drupalers, ...

+1 for the state logo. For
+1 for the state logo. For the variants I like the top left best followed by the bottom right.
I Like the Corn / Inspiration
Great ideas, Michael! Thanks so much for contributing!
I really like the corn logo, middle row, right-most. It has great personality, and it's not uniquely identified with our college football team. Especially with some definition—some thick lines and depth—it would be awesome. If we went with the state variation I'd like to see a blue Druplicon on a green state.
Inspiration
Here are some other Druplicons for inspiration, in no particular order:
DrupalCon Copenhagen:
(More variations at http://cph2010.drupal.org/swag.)
DrupalCon Boston:
Drupalcon Szeged:
Drush Logo:
DrupalSouth:
Bad Camp:
Drupal Camp Bristol:
Drupal Camp Victoria:
Drupal Camp Vancouver:
Drupal Camp Rocky Mountain:
Reason why I had the state
Reason why I had the state over the corn is because it reminded me a lot of the Drupal Iowa logo (well, done better). Corn is something too general to the midwest for me to identify with.

Oh Yeah...
How could I forget Cthulu Druplicon...
...and Darth Druplicon? :-P
I like the whole state (lower
I like the whole state (lower left) one also. I'll through in my vote for that one.
Post an SVG file?
In the spirit of collaboration, is it possible to upload an Inkscape SVG file?

But you could put it in a public DropBox and then post the link back here.

Elevate Contribution
My friend, Jake Stutzman, owner and designer at Elevate, a shop in Hastings that uses Drupal, sent me his ideas. He says he's using corn rows to create the face.
That's pretty sweet
That's a good design - it says corn without using an ear of corn or a husker. Definitely a good image of Nebraska. The cornrows kindof make the druplicon look like a watermelon, though.

Hehe
That's exactly what I told him in response to the first version he sent me, which was all greens and no brown. :-P If everyone likes the concept, though, I'm sure it can be fine tuned to address such issues.
Another option
Here is my attempt to make the corn rows into a 'Nebraska the Good Life' druplicon.

+1 for state logo
Top left first, botton left second...
FYI all in Nebraska, we are moving forward with a campus wide (UNL) implementation of Drupal 7.x. We hope to pilot in late September, live in January. I and many others are part of the team to bring this in. We plan to host the instance off-campus, yet all dev and mod work will be done locally and community of course. Would love to make a meet-up or get a drupalcampNE going as well.
Awesome!
Congrats Todd!
Glad to hear that you guys are going "Blue" as it were. I think it will be great for everyone involved.
Looking forward to seeing you folks at the meetups!
Second that
I second the congrats. Look forward to hearing more about it.
Webinar
Todd, I just got this email from Acquia about a Webinar on OpenScholar Distro. You've probably already looked into it but just in case, thought I'd post the link.
