User group meeting
The fourth Drupal meetup in Brevard will take place on Thursday, June 10th, 2010 at 7pm.
The meeting will take place at 1507 Aurora Road in Melbourne at the offices of GMRS.
I'm open to talking about anything the group is interested in. Leave some suggestions in the comments. See you all there.

I'm interested in themes and learning more about workflow and modification of themes. The new skinr module looks interesting. Does anyone else have experience with it? I've used it on a site and found it quite helpful.

I have not personally used it but I'm definitely interested.

Meeting
I would like to know what hosting platforms or providers everybody is using, and how they like them. My contract with Dreamhost is expiring and I don's see much value renewing the commitment.
Since Drupal Gardens is Officially using 7.0, and release date is approaching, a discussion about modules incompatibilities and changes required for 7 can be interesting. We should have this topic either today, or @ a later meeting, but I believe this is crucial for all of us.
I've been using HostGator.com
I've been using HostGator.com for a little over a year and a half. I use them to host client sites that I still manage as well as my own. They have outstanding customer service and are very reasonable. I have never experience any significant down time since I have been with them. If their servers have gone down, I've never noticed it.
The one thing I learned the hard way (and this is true of any host service that uses cPanel) and that was to steer clear of Fantastico for the Drupal installs. It's better to just set them up yourself. But other than that, I have never really had any problems with them.
Grrr HostGator...
As a former tech support person at HostDime.com based in Downtown Orlando I must agree with the avoid fantastico comment. Not only do fantastico installs come loaded with lots of junk but they also are many times out of date. Fantastico is very slow to update their scripts.
On a final note Fantastico breaks all the time. At least 2-3 times a week I would need to uninstall it and reinstall it on a server cause it sucks that bad.
Softaculous on the other hand is quite nice. Does the same thing only does it better and from what I have seen doesn't install junk with the core install.
Oh and my host vote would of course go to HostDime.com or Surpasshosting.com if you want the same guys but no phone support and lower prices.
aegir
have you documentation to setup an aegir system on one of your vps systems?
Justhost
I use justhost, for my site and a few client sites. I think they may actually be affiliated with hostgator or dreamhost, although I can't recall which one.
OLM and Fantastico
I hosted on OLM in another project. Over there I used fantastico (big mistake) to install 6. I had to use the remove feature and then call tech support since the removal corrupted . htaccess. Tech suport over there was ok. I have not gone into production on that site, so I cannot coment on their drupal perfomance under load.
EC2
Anyone using EC2?
I use both EC2 and SliceHost
I use both EC2 and SliceHost but I put them both in a different category than standard hosts which take care of all the system administration for you. One note, EC2 has some tricks you have to do if you are going to be hosting on more than one EC2 instance.
EC2 Hosting
As of now I have no plans for hosting more than an instance. I'm fine with the no tech support, bare metal type service of Slicehost + EC2. Regarding EC2, my main concern is the lack of clarity regarding the persistence of the machine. I've read that in the case of a crash of the hypervisor, or your instance, or if you shut down the machine, all your changes, installs and data get lost.
VPS Hosting
I am moving from shared to VPS hosting and the leading candidates for me are Rackspace Cloud Servers and Linode VPS.
Hector
I'll throw slicehost in there
I'll throw slicehost in there too but now they're owned by Rackspace so I don't know if that counts as official Rackspace. One thing to note is Rackspace has been a sponsor of the Florida Drupal Camp which gives them some points in my book.
i'm using hostgator...
I have drush all setup, and I am very happy with the service.
but fyi... I was playing around with doing a aegir site last week.
and its pretty interesting.

Openpublish
Thanks Gil and Ed for demonstrating openpublish. I hadn't heard of it until last night. I remember someone said they were having difficulties getting it up and running. I did too using my localhost MAMP. It seems 32M isn't enough memory for it. I changed my php.ini to 64M and it runs fine now. Maybe this will help with anyone else who wants to try it out or is trying to get it working.
