Other than enabling the eC Recurring module, what is necessary to enable the Allow recurring payments option for PayPal? That option is disabled for me at admin/ecsettings/rtypes/paypal_basic.

Yep, same for me
Yep, same for me unfortunately. This is the same for v4 alpha 6 as well as today's dev version.
No idea how these other options are enabled - does ordinary Paypal allow for recurring subscriptions?
Since there was no answer
Since there was no answer here, I posted an issue at drupal.org. Gordon indicated that the feature is not yet enabled.
Yes, PayPal offers recurring payments; it calls them "subscriptions." This is a "gotta-have-it" feature for me.
Well so far, I've tried
Well so far, I've tried alpha 6 and the latest dev for reasonably basic eSite functionality and eCommerce has failed in all areas i.e.
- installed current 'stable' alpha 6 which is flawed for Anonymous shopping so told to get latest dev
- latest dev isn't capable to properly complete a bog standard file Download of digital product
- don't seem to be able to get a complete membership signup to complete either i.e. buy product anonymously which once completed goes into registration process for higher membership status. Maybe it's the spartan documentation, I don't know or maybe this is also broken.
- selection of payment options (basic functionality) is broken is 3.x but fixed in eC4 so I don't see there's much point in going backwards either.
How are other people's experiences in getting paid membership signups and digital downloads (using both Anonymous and Registered Users) working with any version of eCommerce? This is terribly frustrating.
