Group Videos

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

In Drupal Camp Chicago this weekend, I lead a session about Revitalizing Local User Groups. One particular topic of interest was about video of the events. I had presented the idea of Ustream for events. You can stream any event live and record it for later reference on the Ustream site.

Although Ustream is no new idea, we have found that many are not aware of the UStream Producer. This is a free download (also a paid level for multiple camera feeds) that gives you the ability to toggle between a camera (the live feed), a desktop view (for screencasting), and between images that you can upload before-hand. You can also do picture in picture displays. This basically eliminates the post-shoot production and puts it all together live as you record it. Here's a link to check it out: http://www.ustream.tv/producer

For our last Intro Session, we had one of our members managing the stream. He toggled to his browser window as he followed along what we were doing in class, so viewers online could see more clearly. He also followed the live chat that accompanies the broadcast and answered questions for people following online (you could even assign a 3rd person to manage the chat room).

We think that the use of this can make it easier to video events and archive them on the Ustream site. If you're not recording events, you should! If you are, what are you using? And would this tool make life easier for you as well?
