Looking to meet other green, sustainable, eco-friendly type developers

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I am looking to establish relationships with other Drupal developers and themers who are interested in eco-friendly, green, progressive, sustainable, or social justice projects.

Who's with me?

Through my company http://www.10kwebdesign.com we do a lot of work with green businesses, membership groups, and multicultural women entrepreneurs, and I'd like to collaborate and grow with other people who are committed to working in this sphere.

My sense is that there is a very deep need for good developers to offer their skills and talents to the green and clean economy.

Are you eco-conscious?
Are you using your skills to make the world a better place?
Are you a pretty good developer or themer?

Let's talk!

PS) About me: I've been developing on the web since 1999 and started consulting full time in 2004. My main blog is at http://www.ASuccessfulWoman.com, and I started up a free business directory at http://www.GreenBusinessWomen.com. I'm also a guest blogger at http://www.TheGreenGirls.com and http://www.WomenonBusiness.com.

Stephen Cataldo (http://www.spaceshare.com/contact) is a Drupal developer I met at a DUG meeting. He runs http://www.spaceshare.com, which helps businesses offer green travel to events.

Thanks Monica, thanks JD --

Nonprofits:
I'd also recommend checking out Drupal 501c3 hosted at TechLiminal, their meetings have been very informative, a great place for activists and Drupalers to connect:
http://techliminal.com/drupal-brainstorming/

Social Enterprises:
I'm trying to turn SpaceShare event carpooling into a larger, more profitable green-websites-for-conferences company, and still looking for partners (one more Drupal coder, and a good designer even if very part-time) to help create it: http://verdantevent.com
It'd be great to see more Drupal people at the http://StartupWeekend.org events and in general using Drupal's fast-prototyping benefits to bypass the exhausting world of venture capital and rapidly create small companies doing eco-friendly or other good work.

Stephen

Hello Stephen,

Zorga Lina's picture

I was at the BDUG meeting yesterday and saw (but didn't get a chance to talk to )Monica, I wanted to reply to her as well. How should I contact you to help work on vedantevent.com? Can you tell me what needs doing, Drupal-wise?
Thanks!

Hi Zorga -- You can contact

Hi Zorga -- You can contact us at http://verdantevent.com/contact

There's a ton of Drupal work to be done -- our biggest current struggle is around theming, especially a UI that draws people who come to a conference website merely to look at the schedule to be drawn into other activities like sharing a taxi from the airport. We're also working on a carpool-to-events module that will hopefully be released soon. Look at our prototype for the Sustainable Meetings Conference and suggest what you'd improve! And if we succeed as a company there will be lots of customizing for each client -- we should talk off the Drupal forums.

Cheers,
Stephen

Although i dont believe that

Although i dont believe that humans alone are the cause for climate change, i do believe in finding better/cleaner/more effective ways of getting things done. Towards this end i have done quite a bit of research into Solar power, 0 waste water systems, and earthships. I think these technologies if widely adopted could improve climate situations. The bigger issue though is not our country, but how many other countries do things. There is little regard for pollution or even litter for that matter in some parts of the world.

Im located in Evansville, IN and always looking for new tech, so regardless of the reason behind it i love to hear about it.
