Linux Gurus?: Linode Multisite Set-up Ubuntu 8.04

So, I have set up multi-sites on two Windows boxes just fine (root access) and am now having a red flag go up as I work through setting up Apache2 on a Linode server slice I just got. I've installed Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and am now installing apache2 with a multisite configuration (one database per site/one code for all)

Here's documentation I'm following: http://www.gngitp.com/?p=203 (for Ub10 but works for 8 also). Where I am sitting straight up in my seat is at the configuration of virtual domains. In the example, I'm at DocumentRoot /srv/www/bucknell.net/public_html/ On my windows/apache boxes, I make this read: DocumentRoot /htdocs/drupal/ Then I use the standard config of /htdocs/drupal/sites/all .....sites/domain.com etc. So, I am trying to figure out how to mimic that set up on my Linode but stumbling: /srv/www/domain???/public_html/ I am wanting to put /srv/www/drupal/public_html --> that's my first inclination.

However, I read more about creating that directory and came to this: "After you’ve set up your virtual hosts, issue the following commands: a2ensite ducklington.org; a2ensite bucknell.net
This command symbolically links your virtual host file from sites-available to the sites-enabled directory."

So what's the scoop? Do I just have to go ahead and create one virtual domain per the instructions, create /public_htm/Drupal/ and then symlink? Seems that with root access, I should be able to create a symlink-free method but maybe not.
