2 weeks ago, my work sent me down to Washington to attend a week long workshop on module development put on by lullabot. it was pretty awesome, and I learned a ton of stuff. While I was down there, I was able to attend the meetup for the DC area, and got to network with some of the lullabot's and some of the guys from development seed. They have a pretty sweet format for how they run the meetups.
They start off with a round of introductions where everyone can say their name, where they work, and why they're there.. followed by a round of five minute lightning talks where anyone can take the floor to talk - for five minutes or less - about something Drupal related.
It would be great to start thinking about getting something going for September (and on a more regular basis).

That sounds like a great idea. At our last meeting we discussed getting people to suggest things to talk about and then getting someone who had the knowledge to discuss. I think this would work with the lightning talks.
So if anyone has something they would like to learn reply here and suggest it as a topic. Also, if you have something you'd like to talk about do the same.
Shall we shoot for the first week of September and then continue on the first week of every month?

the poll is fairly limited. just some allowed me to enter some text fields... i'd like to get a gauge of a firm day so it's clear and concise that's it's always x day of the week.
the lightning talks were awesome. basically, if you wanted to go beyond the allotted 5 minutes, you did afterwards. i like 5 minutes because they're easy to throw together, and hopefully it would encourage everyone to participate.

I really like the idea of a monthly meetup with this format. We used to do a Delphi (cough) group @ Maritime Life, and it was always a treat to attend. A little quick few minutes of everyone murmurning around chatting, then order. Someone started, we did introductions for everyone and then followed with a similar presentation format with the option for one focus talk. That one could take more time.
I really do like the idea, and have another space we can use. It's got more seats and a better layout. Near the commons, but no pool table!

September is probably the best time to plan for. I assume either 2nd or 3rd week, but we could create another poll or just simply create an event to gauge who can/cannot make it. At the end of the day, we need that core group of people that's willing to come out every month and make the group grow.
Memcache
To get things started again, I'd be willing to give a chat on setting up Memcache with drupal if anyone is interested in that?
Also, if it's more convenient we should be able to use the Chalk offices in Bayers Lake...
