I received notification yesterday that our request to create a Niagara-only group has been declined. I'm hoping this is only temporary, but here's the body of the message I received.
Your Group entry entitled "Niagara" has been denied by our content moderator. Our group guidelines are posted at http://groups.drupal.org/node/add/og. The content has been deleted from our site.
Note:
With a population of less than 500,000 this region would be better served by a bigger geographic region, like "Ontario" or "Canada".
Per the group guidelines at http://groups.drupal.org/node/add/og - "We want fewer big groups given a choice. Groups can split apart organically after some time."
Regards,
The groups.drupal.org teamNow, especially with the last two statements, I think there's a misunderstanding about the geographic and cultural distinctiveness of the Niagara region that illustrates why we should have our own group. Having said that, I don't think there's anything technically wrong with sharing a group with Hamilton, so over the next day or so I'll be setting that back to a joint group between the two regions. We can continue to organize meetups where the active participants are, and if we get some involvement from the people in Hamilton, then the entire group will be better for it.
I just wanted to make sure everyone in the group was aware of the current progress. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or ideas around how to proceed from here, but I feel like this is a reasonable approach.

Thanks for all the work
Thanks for all the work Trevor, it's too bad we got it denied... Well I agree with you for now lets keeping sharing with Hamilton Group... but to be honest I don't think there is any active members in Hamilton....
If there is any active members in Hamilton please let us know.
Cheers!
Thanks Anyway!
I second what Pierre has said.
I think we should proceed assuming there are no active members around Hamilton/Burlington. If there are active drupal users that's not a problem either, just means we'll have to do some travelling in the future. :)
I'm from Burlington/Hamilton,
I'm from Burlington/Hamilton, and I know atleast 1 other that is from the area. We both work downtown Toronto during the week, so we partake in the Toronto-DUG. I would me more than happy to attend a Hamilton/Niagara meetup. Your first meeting conflicted with the Toronto Drupal Camp website code sprint, so I was unable to make it.
I know a couple Drupal guys
I know a couple Drupal guys who're in Hamilton, and I myself work with Drupal but as a designer and project manager. I think there's just no cohesion in Hamilton right now between all the people doing web.
As for collusion with Niagara, although there aren't super strong ties, it's true, it's maybe not a bad idea, considering other joint efforts — eg. McMaster University, Mohawk College and the Art Gallery of Hamilton starting The Hamilton Institute for Interactive Digital Media in conjunction with Silicon Knights in St. Catherines.
Hamilton

Hi to the Hamilton/Burlington
Hi to the Hamilton/Burlington folks, good to hear from you all, I was wondering where everyone went!
Anyway, regarding the cohesion in Hamilton, we're definitely witnessing the same thing down here in the N-Dot, so it would be good to give some support back and forth while we grow this together.
Thanks for your support so far!
