CDMUG Rules

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
slurpee's picture
  1. Do not attend CDMUG events unless you have RSVP'd @ drupal.meetup.com/1 . If you are not on the RSVP list, DO NOT attend the event. I have been nice about this in the past, but too many people took advantage. onShore can barley hold 15 people. Any additional spaces are reserved for onShore employees. People who have not RSVP'd will be turned away.

  2. Do not RSVP for events you will not attend. Save room for dedicated Drupalers.

  3. Do not attend CDMUG early. The meetup starts @ 8 pm, not 7:15 pm. onShore is a place of business and employees will be working until the meetup starts. If you arrive to the area early there are two coffee shops within 1 block on Chicago Ave. www.chimercurycafe.com & www.swimcafe.com

  4. Pizza will no longer be served at onShore. Please eat before the event. This will allow us to focus more on Drupal.

If you have any questions please contact me.

Meetup Capacity

jough's picture

Hi Matthew,

Based on the "you do not talk about Fight Club" rules list above, it sounds like the venue cannot handle the capacity of the group. There are a few developers here who would have attended but now cannot since the Meetup is "full." Have you thought of using another venue? Perhaps somewhere with free wifi (which is not hard to find in downtown Chicago)? I organize a few other Meetup groups and finding an appropriate venue is always the hardest part of running a meetup event.

I'll look forward to meeting you and the rest of the group tonight. It's just unfortunate that we have to turn willing participants away.

Cheers,

-- Jough

another location

I work with a school at 26th street near King Drive, easy to park in the evenings and there's a computer lab with WIFI available. Let me know if this would be a useful option.

Alternative venue

CTC would be willing to sponsor the food and drink minimum if we can find a nice bar/restaurant type of place that has a private room. Or we'd take over buying the pizza and soda every month if we could find another place that can hold more folks. We have a conference room in our new office, but unfortunately, it doesn't comfortably hold more than 15 people either.

I also think it would be cool to use Event + RSVP on the CDMUG site itself instead of Meetup.com for signups.

2nd User Group?

eswiderski's picture

I'm currently a DePaul Masters student at CTI and am interested in forming another Drupal group if anyone is interested. I have many contacts that would be interested in another group as it seems as though CDMUG is filling up regularly (which is great!). Not sure why the venue wouldn't be changed to accommodate more attendees, but I will be forming a steering committee soon, so please let me know if you are interested!

Thanks,

Ed

Why go against CDMUG and

slurpee's picture

Why go against CDMUG and start a second group? We need more people helping with the current group. I would love to hear any suggestions, ideas, or thoughts.

We have been looking for additional venues for over 1 year, but no one ever follows up.

Do you have a new location for us to use? Please let me know if you do.

I go to De Paul CTI as well.

ITA TechNexus

eswiderski's picture

GreenCanyon is located in the ITA TechNexus on Wacker and we have lots of meeting space available to us. We can accommodate 100 people easily. Also, I know there are facilities at CTI that are available too.

My intention was not to "go against" CDMUG at all. I would just like to see everyone attend that would like too. Also, It would be nice to get more students involved with the group.

site alternative

peggybaker's picture

The school I work with would be able to accommodate 30 or so in the computer lab. They'd prefer the meetings start earlier, like at 7, but that might be better for folks anyway.

If one of the organizers wants to contact me, my email is peggy.baker@gmail.com, cell 773-414-0292.

Some of the OnShore folks know this site well, as they have helped provide support there.

Palantir.net soon

Crell's picture

Palantir.net is a local Drupal consultancy. We're moving to a new office near the Clybourn Metra station in April/May, and would be happy to host CDMUG. We will have a conference room with seating for 14 plus standing for more, plus additional work areas.
