Hello, and welcome.
I created this group a while ago, but since nobody joined at the time, I kinda forgot about this group. A recently sent e-mail from one of the members prompted me to come back... and I can see that there are already 4 people here... That's a good start -- it looks like we already have a small Drupali Hamaynq (Drupal Communne) on the go.
I think the first project that we need to do is to create an Armenian translation of Drupal. Both Western Armenian and Eastern Armenian. (I speak both)
I must admit that I know very little about how projects like these are formulated. Any ideas?
I tried to read some documentation on how to create a whole .PO from scratch... but it was way over my head. So if you know anything, please share.
Drupal consists of aprox 2400 strings. My first instinct is to create a WIKI dictionary and we can collectively edit it as we go. I hope this is the right way to start...

Im from Germany, responsible for some pages for the armenian community here, but i have always problems, because im only a User which creates pages through a cms like joomla or else without programming or design knowledge! :)

In fact there's always a struggle between handcoders and cms users. I think pure programmers and pure designers can't even understand why do Content Management Systems exist.
What tempted me to drupal is that it is much more than an ordinary CMS. Drupal provides a space for Designers, Developers as well as CMS customizers to have their chance. I personally have the same problems that you have, because I'm a coder and always forget to depend on ready made tools that drupal or any other CMS provide. So, I end up coding my own modules and themes and this causes me troubles and overkills my work process in terms of time.

yes, that's the whole concept of Drupal and open source systems: You help the community, but soon you realise that by doing that you are also helping yourself (very socialistic principle).
I am not a programmer, but I have been with drupal for nearly 1 year now, so gradually I started learning php as well. I've built 2 good websites with Drupal (the second one is not launched yet) ... and I'm now working on my first Armenian-related Drupal project (which is almost complete and I'll show it to you as soon as it is launched).
I think at this stage as a community of 5 people we should edit the English-Armenian Drupal-Dictionary WIKI that I created. I think this is the best way forward ... and the reason for that is Localisation Client module http://drupal.org/project/l10n_client .... it's truely awesome!!! If we have a complete English --> Armenian WIKI-dictionary , with the Localization Client module each one of us can translate Drupal into Armenian in 1 day (maybe 2 or 3) ... It's really that easy.
So start editing the WIKI-dictionary !!!

First, i'm happy for the armenian group, it's growing that's cool... The wiki-dict is a nice idea and i remember about a computer armenian terms dictionary edited by the Venizia Mekhitarian's. I have to found it in my father's book library. It could help us a lot...
I have a serious subject of work for armenian "drupalistner" : the web site of Gyumri contemporary art biennial, 10th anniversary this year.
I begin the work 2 years ago with only html code and design and for now, i begin a drupal site, open blog spirit, multi-localised : english, russian, french and armenian of course... SO the website url adress is :

This is volunter job for my friends of the Gyumri biennial organisation. I think that's a good exercice to test an armenian interface for Drupal... We have the project to make a seminar about Drupal in Gyumri within the biennial event...

In fact I'm not only happy, I'm surprised that there are at least few people who are Armenian and interested in developing ways to get the most out of Drupal and help the Armenian web community in general.
I'll try to find the Mekhitarian's dictionary in local libraries here in Aleppo and take a look at it.
Regarding gyumribiennial.org, Yes I agree that it's a good starting point for all of us. So, go on create an new discussion in this group.

I can help you creating the .po files needed for both Western and Eastern Armenian. In fact, I know both but I don't know anything regarding the computer terms in Armenian. That's why the wiki exist ;)
But I think it's better idea to create a translation project in http://drupal.org/project/Translations this way more people can reach the translations and we can drive more Armenians into Drupal and into this group. (I'll arrange that tomorrow if you like)
So, we need 2 wiki pages one for Western and one for Eastern Armenian Translations these wiki pages can serve as a tool to allow those who are not familiar with .po files and CVS patch files to help those who can create those files and apply them to the 2 translatino projects in http://drupal.org/project/Translations.

Sorry for not replying sooner. I've been stuck with one Armenian website for the last few month - hardly get time to check this group.
Few weeks ago I stumbled upon a new drupal module which lets you create a designated website, which other users can login and collectively translate at the same time. Sort of like a live WIKI. And once the translation is done, then the the .PO file can be easily exported.
I can't remember the name of that module. I think it was a 6.x module. But it says that this will become the standard of future translations workflows. You guys can search for that module, and I will try searching for it as well. And I can set up a website for translations to start taking place. After that it would be reasonaple to set up a Translations project on drupal.org/project/translations.
I speak both Armenian dialects cause I'm originally from Armenia and studied in Melkonian (in Cyprus). My Armenian is a bit rusty cause I've been living in UK for 11 years. But I have to admit that the Armenian Internet language is a totally different ballgame -- a totally unexplored terrain.
Right now I'm completing my Armenian Web2.0 project (to which I dedicated some intense 5-6 months). Me and my friends are doing some translations of the "surface" language.... the terms of the user-interface. But that can hardly become the basis of an Armenian translation. But for now it helps, because it is a good practice. Actually we find ourselves inventing new terms that don't exist in Armenian ... like new terms for "Aggregator", "Spam" etc... , which is pretty fun.

im little bit of the work with drupal, because of my time! I will start converting the pages which i made for my armenian studentclub HAIK www.haiknet.de from joomla to drupal. Why? Because Drupal is more community as joomla! In Joomla i have no forum which i can provide different areas for different user (like board-members of the club and normal members and normal guests!
But this work i will hopefully start soon, but other projects have problems, yet.

i cant manage this root-server for this project of friends of mine. They need mail-Server-functions but i cant configure this debian server. And that problem stops all my other work because it is more important after all my other stuff which i have to do.(studies and volunteerwork) :)

Glad to see this group started. I'm new to Drupal but the wiki that drupalina created would be a great resource for other projects that need English-Armenian translations. I know that there is an effort to make Armenian translation for Plone, but I'm not sure what the status of this project is - http://plone.org/development/teams/i18n/existing-translations.
In any case, I've found a good resource (English-Armenian translated terms.xls) from https://wiki.mozilla.org/Armenian_L10n_-_Home and finished translating all the words that start with latter "A". A couple of notes; I used (ռմհ) ռեսուրսների միասնականացված հասցեավորիչ acronym for (url) uniform recourse locator, which sounds weird, but so does url for someone who doesn't know English. Also, այլանել for aliasing is a made up word.
Drupal position can be done from Armenia
My client is seeking an experience Drupal 6 Developer who has developed at least 3 to 4 sites. (More is better). 2 years of Drupal experience. Knowing PHP is fine, but the candidate needs to really consider themselves a Drupal developer first and foremost.
You need to know CCK, Views and Drupal 6 Form API's. If you know other modules great but these core modules is a must.
The work itself going to building some very public sites. In fact this is going to be first of many. The people you will be work with are extremely technical and very senior excellent opportunity to work with and collobrate and learn a tremendous amount.
DURATION
As of now the work is anticipated to go for at least 8 weeks. 40 hours a week. Possibly longer. You will be paid on an hourly basis. Start time is immediate.

I also live in Armenia. I will help with the translation. I'm not a native speaker, but I'll do that best that I can.
I think having Drupal localized in Armenian is very important. Its an empowering platform that will enable Armenia's many NGOs to spread the message about their causes.
Personally, I am beginning work on a project that will educate young Armenians about Global Warming, and help them find ways to make an impact in their communities. I would prefer to use Drupal, but having the Armenian localization will be important.
