Why not here?
Hey, James. I posted about this in the meetup group as well. What would you think of either moving or mirroring the group's activity here on g.d.o? As I wrote there:
PROS:
- g.d.o is the generally accepted place for such things
- will attract people who are already in the (d.o) Drupal community
- will prevent splintering between the two
- will encourage people to become part of the greater Drupal community on g.d.o and d.o
CONS:
- Meetup is better-known by folks who haven't come across -- or are uncomfortable with -- g.d.o and d.o
- Meetup has better meeting-organization tools than g.d.o.

let's talk more
I posted here initially to grab attention only and it did generate some interest. I like the idea of mirroring our group for a while into g.d.o. as this is the place for all things Drupal and it might help new people in getting a grip on this very educational and active community. Did you hear about the new IRC channel on Freenode? (#drupal-NEO).
In the vein of this message, I am mirroring my response to our MeetUp page and I added a few other thoughts.
P.S.
Just added the #drupal-neo group to my rooms whenever I log in to IRC. :)

Good deal!
If you're amenable to moving and/or mirroring, I guess the next stage is to work out a plan to do that. I imagine that discussion will happen more on the Meetup site; I'll keep my eye on it there.

Meetup and g.d.o.
Good points, and thanks for raising this issue.
The couple Cons you listed are exactly the reasons I decided to use Meetup. The majority of the folks signed up for the group (and who attended the first meeting) don't have [g.]d.o. accounts nor are very familiar with either site. Meetup's invitation tools made it easy to get a lot of folks to sign up for the group and to commit and come to to the meeting(s).
I think using Meetup makes a lot of sense (at the moment,) but agree that maintaining the g.d.o. presence and a connectedness there to group activities is helpful to ensuring our group is a part of the greater Drupal community. If you, James, or anyone else wants to cross-post anything/everything there, that's awesome and something we'll all be grateful for. I don't think every conversation need necessarily be mirrored, but that's obviously your prerogative.
One of my main intentions in present and future dealings with the group is to make folks aware of the larger Drupal community and show why and how they can be a part of it. I think that if we continue to bring folks into the fold, the collaboration that happens more "centrally" (on [g.]d.o.) will increase, and we can make sure we're enlisting 3rd-party tools like Meetup only peripherally to facilitate growing the group, or whatever we're trying to accomplish…
good idea
I'll try to mirror for awhile and see how well it works. Thanks for your comments Jeff.
Thanks for taking charge, James!
Mark this issue as "fixed". ;)
