User group meeting

Turner Broadcasting (Creators of CNNGo.com) have once again offered us use of their office in Quarry Bay.

You must RSVP for this event here. If security does not have your name on the list, you won't be allowed in.

Here's some possible topics for discussion, give us your feedback:

  • At our last HKDUG there was a lot of interest on how to handle images. What makes this topic interesting is that there are three or four main use cases for images, each of which you'd handle differently (blogs, ecommerce, etc.). One idea on how to present this would be to setup a wiki page in advance where we could brainstorm all the different use cases, and the different ways to manage images for each use case. We could have a different person present on each use case.

  • How to create an install profile with the use of Batch API. How to integrate Features, Drush make, and install profiles.

  • At Barcamp Dave gave a presentation on security on the web in general. The next step is how to make this specific to Drupal. How do you make your Drupal site secure, and how do you write secure code in Drupal.

  • If you've learned something new in Drupal, share it.

  • If you've got a tough problem that you'd like some different perspectives on, share it.

You MUST signup here as we need to provide names to security beforehand! This is a sizable venue so there is no limit (that's judging from the recent turn out rates)

I've started a Wiki for the image idea:
http://groups.drupal.org/node/101064

We need people to present on each of the image use cases. Or if you don't want to present, just edit the document and add some ideas for how to implement the use cases. Be bold!

This is a great topic... and one that I have struggled with.

Unfortunately, I am in Philippines all next week.

I hope somebody can document the meeting... either notes... or recording... or video...

ops, on holiday.

Although not directly related, my current work in Drupal involves many images,
see http://interests.scmp.com/international-property/
see http://joetsuihk.com/scmp_interests_international_property for technical details

I did not especially mention the images part in the post, but the site use imagefield + imagefield_crop + imagecache
For images that need crop within the site (editor upload, crop within Drupal), use imagefield_crop
For images that only need resize, use imagecache in PHP: http://joetsuihk.com/render_imagecached_image_through_php

the frontpage fixed height image gallery, image in popup are also generated by imagecache. Actual larger image actually never being served.

hope it helps

I've claimed the News

I've claimed the News Articles use case. But no one else has yet stepped up to present. I guess we'll have to make it up as we go.
