Jim Beckstrom and I are planning a free and informal Drupal Workshop series for 6 Wednesday nights starting next Wednesday, 10/13/10, 7-9PM, WCC, Room BE150. I've created a syllabus to guide the direction of the workshops each day, but it's open for modification and change depending on the who shows up and their respective interests!
WORKSHOP OUTLINE:
Week 1 - An Introduction to Drupal
• Basic Drupal demo: What does Drupal look like and do?
• Creating your first page in Drupal
• How Drupal works: Core Modules + Contributed Modules + Themes
• What is a module?
• What is a theme?
• D.O (Drupal.org)
Week 2 - Web Development Basics
• What is a LAMP stack? (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
• What is HTML and CSS?
• What is a database driven website?
• What is a content management system (CMS)?
• How Drupal uses all this to power your website!
Week 3 - Using Drupal
• Adding and editing content
• Creating new types of content
• Adding files, images, video and more
• Viewing content in new and unique ways (lists, tables, and pagers)
• Setting up users, roles, and permissions
Week 4 - Extending Drupal
• What is FTP, SSH, and telnet?
• Downloading modules and themes from Drupal.org
• Installing modules
• Installing themes
Week 5 - Questions and Answers: Part 1
• Discussion starter: How to install Drupal demo
• Q&A Discussion
Week 6 - Questions and Answers: Part 2
• Discussion starter: Best practices and tips for every Drupal site
• Q&A Discussion

We filled the classroom for our first Drupal Workshop
Thank you to everyone who made it out to the meetup last night! We had a full classroom with at least 20 people attending of all skill levels, backgrounds, and Drupal interests.
As a reminder, the Drupal Workshop is happening at WCC every Wednesday night, 7PM, Room BE150 for the next 5 weeks.
Don't let a small number of RSVPs scare you away! These events include members from the Michigan Drupal Meetup, Metro Detroit Drupal User Group, and the Ann Arbor Drupal User Group so not everyone RSVP'd as attending on the meetup page for last night's meeting.
