Come out and meet the Drupal users in the Twin Cities! We meet every month on the first Thursday for Drupal Happy Hour. This month we are reaching out to new Drupal Users! This meeting is very informal, no presentation, just come together to talk about Drupal. You don't have to be a developer to attend! All users are welcome.
Blue Nile Restaurant

The Blue Nile has a great craft beer selection and Ethiopian food. There is plenty of space for us to meet at happy hour, and they have free Wi-Fi.
Every month we see the usual suspects, but this month we will reach out to new Drupal users. Please post this anywhere, and to anyone that might be interested, and bring along someone new.
We'll post another reminder as we get closer to the date, for now get it on the calendar and spread the word!
We can also build momentum by signing up below. Please?

Class may keep me away
I usually have class until 7:15 - I may make it over if I get out early or if you end up going late.
I'd like to attend if I'm
I'd like to attend if I'm able - I'm a relatively new Drupal developer and it'd be nice to meet some like-minded locals. I will see how my schedule shakes out.
How would one identify the Drupal group at the restaurant?
I am also going to ask that question.
How can one identify a Drupal group at a restaurant?
That's a good question :)
Fortunately, the restaurant we go to is rarely ever packed (which is why we go there, though it is still good) -- This summer, we tended to sit outside - but now that it is winter, probably inside - near the doors. If you listen, it will not be long before you hear Drupal - but you can always ask a group if they are Drupal. Strangers usually reply with a "No, what's that?" and then you can have a ridiculous conversation about being a geek with someone... or just ask a different group. The Drupal group also all knows each other... so if you see people being like "HEY!!!" - that's a good clue, too.
Note - people go to Blue Nile by default now - but it's really up to whoever remembers to make the event posting to pick the location. Mixing it up from time to time is cool - especially to make the event accessible to people from different neighborhoods.
Good answer, Chach!
...or just ask a different group.
I'll be there
I will definitely be attending. I've had an idea for a site for some time now, and am contemplating using Drupal. I've been a Windows developer for a long time now but fairly new to PHP. I'd like to run the plan by a couple people and see if Drupal is the right framework for I want to do or if I'm just going to have to break down and write something from scratch. I'm really hoping the former. :)
Well...
You're going to ask a bunch of Drupal people if Drupal is the right solution? I can answer that without hearing details.. yes, yes it is. :D
Silly me
I should have expected that answer. :)
I attended the Intro to Drupal meeting last week down at Advantage Labs, it gave me a good jumping off point. I've managed to successfully get Linux running in a VM with Acquia Drupal (this on it's own feels like an accomplishment for me) and I'm starting to play around with configuration.
Now my goal at the Happy Hour is to get pointed in the right direction when it comes to taking an entity relationship diagram and turning that into a useful Drupal site.
Drupal Meet Up Group
Hi All,
I started the Drupal Meet Up group -- but not at all with the intention of fracturing this group. I was simply not well versed in what you had going on. Is there an event calendar for this group that I'm missing? Anyway, I'm going to use the meet up group to simply repost the events this group posts.
Thanks! jenel
The Missing Calendar Page, Event reminders & tech mailing lists
Don't worry, the way the groups.drupal.org site is organized isn't (yet) visually compelling, it took me like a year to notice it (though it was there all along.) Drupal event calendar. I'm not sure if the Drupal redesign group has planned anything about events, but it is always open to new members. They launched the new drupal.org design this week. Which is really awesome. groups.drupal.org is a separate site though.
I don't think we have a list of local mailing lists for web/tech events. We could make one, that's just a new Wiki page - then people can add to it. It might be helpful for inviting people to the Drupal camps we are planning. I did a bunch of research this summer and there ISN'T a listing of all the kinds of tech groups in the Twin Cities. But there ARE a lot of them. It would be helpful. MinneBar is the biggest group - there is TC Code Camp (different languages?) - but then even still there are lots and lots of groups for different languages. There are also several affinity groups, like some geeky tech women's groups.
Sweet
I applaud your efforts! The event functionality of groups.drupal.org pales in comparison to Meetup. I'm sure many would appreciate a better interface/functionality and easier-to-break-into event management, i.e. to see who's going without being a Twitter friend of everyone else who's going, etc. I'm planning on going this time, finally, after about a year of never being able to make it. Bringing a friend.
Anyway, thanks!
