User group meeting
Nobody has answered where to have this, so I suggest James Street (where we used to go). I know three or four other people expressed interest in attending last time, but not through Groups.Drupal, so if everyone could sign up here to let people know if anyone is showing up, that would be great.
If you want to change the location, please also discuss that here, given the short timeline, so everyone can go to the same place.
I'm at Drupalcamp in Toronto, and it's gotten off to a really interesting start. After lunch is a keynote by Microsoft.

Interested newbie
I guess this makes for the first reply. I'm not new to Drupal, but am pretty new to doing much beyond doing minor modifications to existing themes. Am I right in thinking James Street is the large pub at Bank and James?
Geoff
Yes. Actually, could someone
Yes. Actually, could someone downtown confirm that its still there?
Greetings Ottawa Drupalpeeps
I am an avid Drupal user/themer.. I make Drupal sites but not making modules quite yet.. nice to know there is something of a community of Drupal people here.
I was at the first Toronto Drupal camp, I find it surprising that Drupal has grown so much since 2007 that now Microsoft is speaking at a Drupal camp, what happened!! lol
I'm more excited to hear
I'm more excited to hear Dries later this afternoon, but the MS guy was okay.
Downtown++
I love the fact that it's back downtown, and will definitely start coming again if that's the case, but I can't make it on Monday, as I'm entertaining someone from out of town.
Like I've said before, if
Like I've said before, if anyone downtown wishes to host the group that would be great.
Pub Night
Downtown? East?
Larger Venue? or Smaller?
Manx?
Manx
I really like the Manx! :)
so is this still on for 2nite?
and if so where?
Good question
I've been operating on the assumption it's at the James Street Pub at Bank and James, but looking over the comments, it's really hard to know whether it was a proposal or a commitment.
Unless someone says otherwise, I suppose I'll just show up at 7:00, order a pint and see if anyone else makes an appearance. I'll be wearing a black, narrow-brimmed hat for easy identifiability.
Geoff
I believe the time is 5:30,
I believe the time is 5:30, not 7, so there should be a bunch of people there already.
I'm planning on going.
Whoops!
Thanks muchly; I'll be heading out anon.
5:30 at James Street Feed Co. (at Bank and James)
not sure why this is so confusing.. lol
i'll swing by but doesn't sound like we have much response here.

I'm still assuming James
I'm still assuming James Street, since the people who suggested the Manx didn't sign up.
Sorry folks!
Yes I said MANX but a little jet-lagged coming back from Vancouver today.
Hopefully able to get organized a little better next time round....
Have fun
Marc
Feeling out of my depth
As per the subject-line, I felt very much like the newbie I'm not (technically). But I think I learned a bit and folks were most welcoming. Peter, Kathryn, Lee ... it was a pleasure.
Nice meeting you too
Nice meeting you too Geoff.
Usually at the end of the evening, we try to set up the next, but it was getting a little loud.
Next meeting?
Hi,
Looks like I just missed a meetup. I have a large suitable place for a meeting in Arts Court (Next to the Rideau Centre). We have WIFI and projectors, but no food service.
Just attended DrupalCamp Montréal 2010. Looking forward to meeting more Drupal developers in Ottawa.
Michael
No food service here either....
except that I usually get in some pizza or other munchies because I can't listen over my tummy growling. So those of us from the burbs would park at Rideau Centre? Would you like to host something in mid-November? I know a couple of us are really fascinated with Features and Drush now (having been in Montreal).
No food service here either....
Hi..
Food is welcome in our lab, only you'd have to plan ahead, or have it delivered. It just wasn't clear to me which was the bigger draw, food or drupal to these meet ups. Sometimes you cut out one element and no one shows up. :-)
Artengine would be happy to host the next Drupal meet up in November. Features and Drush sound fine. I was only in Mtl Saturday.. but did manage to find another guy from Ottawa who actually suggested I look the group up here. I felt that DrupalCamp was missing a hands on element to most of the presentations.
Artengine is a local not for profit artist run centre, and are very supportive of open source software. FYI, we're launching a electric arts festival next week, with a hacker space "Maker Faire". There's likely some over lap there...

Parking can be had a the Rideau Centre, or you can make nice with the front desk clerk at arts court and you won't be towed. There is parking for free in Sandy Hill, but you have to compete with the UofO students too...
Best,
Michael
Can you create a new event
Can you create a new event with the details?
In my opinion, while the pub is fun, it's really annoying not to be able to demo anything.
Features and/or Drush
How about we separate Features from drush and dedicate an evening for each of those? I am a super newbie when it comes to the command line and I actually managed to install drush for the first time today, after the push from everyone at Drupalcamp Montreal... :) So, as Michael mentioned, a bit more hands on stuff would be good. Also there is the drush_make that could be incorporated with drush, no?
I think Features could be more about actually creating a few of them and see how we can incorporate them into another site, and also update them...
What do you all think? Does anyone feel comfortable enough to lead us into one or both topics?
Also, could we pin down a date? Maybe Monday the 15th? Michael?
My drush foo is pretty good
My drush foo is pretty good so I'd be ok with giving a run through how to use it. If people are feeling really daring we can jump into drush_make as well.
As long as the day isn't a Tuesday or Wednesday, I can be there.
As for Features, I'd say save it for another day. There are some important things to note with how drush and Features work together. Best to keep them separate for the moment. Plus during a Features talk we could cover Features as well as Feature Server (Fserver).
