North West UK

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

NWDUG meets on the second Tuesday of the month and features expert help, discussions and demonstrations.

Bring your Drupal questions and problems, as well as any projects you'd like to demo.

We meet in MadLab, in Plant Noma in the northern quarter of Manchester.

We usually have a round up of all the Drupal news, one or two talks, followed by any other business before moving on to the pub. Specifics are announced on our Meetup group, https://www.meetup.com/nwdrupal/

We also have our own slack channel, DM @nwdug on Twitter for an invite.

Going to DrupalCon?

It's become a fine tradition of European DrupalCons to have a meet up of the Drupal UK community in a local British pub, and this year is no exception!

Come to Kennedy's on Wednesday night to talk Drupal with people from all over the UK, and experience a German take on a traditional British pub.

We have space booked from 7 p.m., so if you don't recognise anyone, and you don't spot any Drupal t-shirts, just ask for Drupal at the bar and they'll point you to our room.

Views (Table Format) - how to show ONLY those fields that have been filtered as opposed to all fields?

I have a view showing a table with say about 20 fields attached to it and exposed filters for all these fields. My question is assuming I am only filtering on 5 fields how can I ensure the table only shows these 5 fields that I have filtered as opposed to bringing back the results but still showing all the other fields as well?

Drupal 7 Fields - how to associate fields to each other?

Is there a way in which to associate fields in Drupal 7?

For example I have two content types (1) is a client information form that has the client's business name and all the details of all the relevant persons we deal with from that company (there could be up to 40+ people) i.e their tel numbers, email addresses, etc and (2) is a client job form which details a specific job (we could do 100's of separate jobs just for the one company).

General Discussion - Different User Registrations (Create new accounts) - The best methods/best practices?

Hi everyone

I just thought I'd try and get a discussion going regarding 'user registration/creating a new account' and what people think the best methods/best practices are for this?

The discussion springs from my own current requirements and a general confusion in terms of the best way to go. Standard D7 user registration vs Profile2 vs Any other known system of combination?

User registration date on Profile2 - how to record and pull into a view?

Hi

I've been picking my brains and am trying to something which I feel should be simple but can't get my head around it.

All I want to do is record user registration date and time and bring them through on a view i.e. I can see user profiles and particularly the date and time they joined.

I am using Profile2 so I'm not sure if this has any bearing on this?

I'm assuming Drupal automatically records this info but can't think where to pull it from?

Thank you

Stephen

Direct authenticated users to 'Edit' tab as apposed to the 'View' tab.

Hi

Does anyone know of a way to get a link in Drupal to go direct to the 'Edit' tab/page as opposed the usual 'View' tab/page?

To be clear I am using Profile2 and have a link to a profile page from the user menu. At the moment when they click this they are taken to the 'View' page where they then have to click the 'Edit' tab to make changes to their profile. I'm not too confident of all users working this out so would prefer them to go straight the 'Edit' page.

I'm using the standard D7 Bartik theme should this be relevant.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

US hosting vs UK hosting

Similar to last post I'd also like to hear what people have to say about using US based hosts for serving mostly UK targeted sites? Is there anything to consider (with the exception of obvious time delays for support)?

Thank you

Stephen

AWS - Amazon Web Services - Accessing servers on a mac using SSH and public/private keys

Hi everyone

I've been using AWS (Amazon Web Services) and their EC2/Cloud Formation services for the past week and have been testing the instant Drupal sites via the Cloud Formation. After much trial and error I have everything working with the exception that I am unable to upload/download files to the server as it requires SFTP utilising public/private key pairs. I've done everything possible and have viewed umpteen articles in relation to this but still cannot find any answers on how to do this via my mac.

Take me to your leader

Hello!

I'm trying to get input and feedback into the creation of a UK Drupal Association that will help and enable the regional Drupal user groups in the UK. Who is currently organising Drupal events in the North West? I'd like to get their input.

(Everyone else is entitled to give me feedback and input too, just that I suspect that any association will effect event organisers negatively the most, so would like to ensure that it doesn't as much as possible by talking to them!)
