Oxford Drupal Ladder learn sprint, Sat 6 Oct 2012, Torchbox offices

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Writeup of the event now available on the Torchbox website.

Event details here. This wiki page provides extra information about what we'll do on the day.

What

Learn sprints are a way of helping everyone get up the Drupal Ladder: learn skills which will both help Drupal core (because they can contribute more); and also help themselves (because they'll be better at Drupal, will be able to influence core decisions, and more generally know how to find their way round the forums and issue queues.)

How

This will be a working meeting, so bring your laptops: you'll be expected to work on your own computers!

You should also pre-register an account on http://drupalladder.org . It takes a couple of minutes. Have a look around the site too: especially click on the lowest ladder rungs to get an idea for what's involved.

We'll get together in a welcoming but not too distracting space with decent wi-fi. Then we'll start with explanations and (very brief) introductions. We'll look through the ladder and get an idea for what levels people are at. The leader(s) can also demo one of the "ladder rung" tasks too if there's demand: on a big screen or projector.

Then we'll pair up on the basis of roughly similar experience - but remember that no experience is required to join in! - and do whatever learn sprint rungs people are happy with. Each rung could take ten minutes or an hour; but we'll review every hour or so to see how people are getting on and make sure everybody's happy, and maybe do another demo.

Who

Up to twelve Drupalers. If we've more than twelve, we might have to draw names out of a hat, as it could get difficult to manage for our first attempt!

Signups for potential dates on Doodle are now closed; once we've set up a g.d.o event, we'll put the link here.

When

Saturday 6 October, 12:00-17:00, with options for trains either side.

If you're coming by train, aim for the 11:23 one: it gets to Charlbury at 11:40, and it's around a 20-minute walk through a deer park and country estate to get to the offices.

Where

Torchbox offices: Unit 9, Southill Business Park, Cornbury Park, Charlbury OX7 3EW (map below the fold)

How to get to the office

  • 20-30 mins' walk from Charlbury train station, which is 15 mins' train from Oxford. Here's a map for walking from the station. The footpath is in good condition, although it's grass and it can get a bit leafy.
  • 25 mins' drive from central Oxford - note we're at the Finstock end of Cornbury Park, not the Charlbury end. If you're driving, you'll need the gate code.

Lift sharing

The following people are offering to pick people up. This will be at 11.30am, opposite the Royal Oak on Woodstock Road (where we have post-OxDUG drinks!) - please try to get there in good time.

If you would like a lift or can offer a lift, please sign up here on the wiki. Use your d.o username so we can work out who you are!
