I am getting very close to satisfied with the Drupal 5 version of this site. Folks are welcome to browse a recent snapshot at http://groupsbeta.drupal.org. Feel free to post and delete content. No emails will be generated.
Please post your bug reports in this thread. There are a couple of known minor glitches, like authenticated rss feeds, missing rss icons, and missing help text at top pf a few pages. ignup module has been dropped for now since it doesn't have a D5 branch.
One nice benefit for editors is that you may now post into any group without being a subscriber there.
