Cisco, Mozilla to collaborate on Open Source H.264 Codecs

Brendan Eich reports on his blog today that Cisco intends to license open source codecs for H.264, and Mozilla will be partnering with Cisco to get that stuff working in browsers.

From now we have decided that mpeg-4 aka mp4 is the new standard video format for distributing screencasts.
Note! .mp4 being the file extension it selves and mpeg-4 being the name of the format/container.
