SoC 2012 Announcements

The Omega Framework group is dedicated to learning more and discussing the Omega theme, Delta module, and related projects. The Omega theme is a powerful 960.gs base theme for Drupal.

Node.js is a relatively new server-side technology that allows real-time web services, and other TCP/IP applications, to be written in Javascript. Unlike PHP, in which logic can be "blocked" waiting for I/O resources to become available, node.js logic runs "asynchronously", with logic executed seemingly in parallel. Applications like real-time chat are trivial in node.js. This working group aims to explore how node.js can be leveraged to provide real-time services that integrate with Drupal sites.

Drupal supports many web servers such as Apache, IIS, and, Nginx to name a few. What might be surprising is that Drupal can also be installed inside of Java servlet containers such as Tomcat. This group is a discussion forum for installing, configuring, and optimizing Drupal on Tomcat and other Java containers. Success stories and practical implementations of running Drupal on Java srvlet containers are also welcome in order to define what scenarios this setup might be beneficial.

Bitcoin is a new digital currency which provides a lot of benefits over other currency forms but also has its limitations. This group is devoted to discussing modules and other functionality that supports the use of Drupal with Bitcoin. There is a good thread about Drupal & Bitcoin at the Bitcoin forums..

This group is intended to help Drupal become a good platform for building complex, data-driven applications. We help application developers explore and learn how to use Drupal to model complex data structures, build data-collecting and reporting systems, and manage ongoing development and maintenance. We also provide suggestions and guidance for ways that Drupal can be made more suitable for this purpose than it already is.

Overview

NetSuite is business management software run as SaaS over the interwebs. This group welcomes discussions about getting Drupal to talk to NetSuite via the SuiteTalk SOAP API.

There is an, official, albeit closed, NetSuite User Group which can be useful. However much of the conversation there regarding the SuiteTalk API revolves around C/Java. There are some PHP users there who use the PHPToolkit though.

We are trying to make APE easy to install, implement and use.

Discussion about why and when ajax push could and should be used is more than welcome here as well as comparison of APE against other competing technologies.

In a nutshell APE refreshes the client when something happens on the server. It can be used for making an online chat for instance.
