page based blocks

Hi, New to Drupal and have a question. I am rebuilding my website from HTML, Javascript, CSS, and so on coding to Drupal and also using it for Drupal learning. I have a block that I want to be displayed on all nodes/pages of the site except for the following; front, contact and forum only when an anonymous user/visitor is on the site. The block does not display on the front page and that is correct. However no matter what I place the “Show block on specific pages except for those listed” the only page it does not show up on is the front page.

I am a newbie in web design, new to Acquia Slate and am very excited to have found this group. Hoping to manipulate some blocks such as the login block. I would like to place it on header-top but throw it on the right-hand side and without the Open-ID option. Basically, I want it to look much like it does on the showcased site Cornerstone Gospel Church.

I'm in the middle of trying to figure out the right experience for installing and using Acquia's hosted search platform. In doing so, I had to think about how to build pages that were Solr enabled. In parallel, I've been thinking about a better way work with blocks. The two topics were fairly connected, so I started working on some concepts.
